Reminder: Farscape Peacekeeper Wars on Sunday

Schedule reference: tv.yahoo.com

There are two parts to the mini-series, each two hours long. The first part will air on Sunday, October 17th, the second the following day, Monday, October 18th.

According to the schedule, Sci Fi will run each part three times in a row, and with a repeat of the previous night’s part prior to the second on the second day.

Both parts will be repeated on Sunday, October 24th.

With that many showings, even without a PVR or VCR, you should be able to catch it.

Is that the show with the muppets?

One of the main characters was a muppet(a small alien that rode around on a grav plate) but there was no wide spread muppet use beyond that.

Farscape takes place in a fairly non-cliched sci-fi universe with some interesting and some times unusual plots. It’s not my favorite tv show but I would tape it and watch it semi-regularly.

Anyone know when it’s coming to England? I don’t know what the Sci-Fi channel’s like in the US, but over here it’s mostly third rate programs nobody wants to watch, bad movies, and awful porno about people screwing aliens/computers/aliens and computers.

Well, you’ll most likely be able to get it off the net via bit torrent after it airs but iirc, bb2 was showing the series across the pond when it was still on.

I HATE YOU ALL

That was pretty good! A bit of the “cram an entire season into 4 hours” going on, but its worth it.

Long, long after the fact. They didn’t bother buying the later series.

Perhaps someone can tell me why the Farscape DVDs are twice as expensive as oh, everything else?

… because the DVD rights are owned by ADV Films, a company that got it’s start with anime.

Ask anyone about anime prices, and they’ll tell you about horror stories from the pre-DVD era when a single anime VHS tape averaged $60.

ADV hasn’t quite gotten out of that mindset of screwing people over for as much money as possible, unfortunately, and Farscape fans get shafted because of it.

“ADV hasn’t quite gotten out of that mindset of screwing people over for as much money as possible, unfortunately”

ADV’s gotten worse. The fact that I haven’t been watching anything like as much anime as I used to is due largely to them trying to stretch out every show as long as humanly possible - used to be four discs for a series, then six, and now seven. £140 for what’s typically going to be an average action-comedy series that quickly descends into fluff, filler and caps out with a crap ending? Sorry, no. I like anime, but not THAT much. Unfortunately, too many fans immediately rush to defend them, whining “Oh, they’re just a poor multinational corporation with a near total lock on the entire genre!”

Over here, Farscape isn’t done by ADV. You get between four to six episodes per double-DVD set, plus special features (often themselves bundled up cheaper), each for a reasonable £20 - and there’s a few other deals scattered around as well.

Fun fact:
The Complete Season 4 from ADV, you can get for 65.72 GBP from dvdboxoffice.com
To buy the five double-DVD sets of season 4 from play.com, you have to shell out 89.95 GBP.
Even the Complete Season 3 set from play.com is as much as 74.99 GBP.

Reasonable INDEED!

Odd. I know that bbc or was it space/sky that showed some of season 4 before it hit the US on scifi because I was watching them off the net. Same thing happened with Stargate sg1 season 6.

Don’t get me started on ADV. I originally got suckered into buying the first 4 dvds of season 1 with 2 eps per disc at $20. I know of several folks who sing their praises on anime but I think they’re nuts ($30 for 3-4 eps on many series). ADV offered all of season 1 farscape as 2 eps per disc, then season 2 in 2 disc sets of 4 eps and then as whole seasons charging about $120/ season I think.

It was a bit rushed so far.

I wish they’d pushed the series out a little farther. Sixty days just doesn’t seem far enough.

I still wonder why they didn’t just chop the last two minutes out of the last episode. Do we really need to see Rygel puking up his ship-mates?

Rockne S O’Bannon and David Kemper are right bastards.

The second half: woah.

Some Farscape fans kept cautioning that we shouldn’t expect a perfect, happy ending from the same people who’ve screwed over characters before, but just this once I thought I’d hope for the best.

What was lost? Damn.

Some really great moments, though. The wedding? Great. Harvey? Great. The playground of stars? Great.

I skipped yesterday, and watched all 4 hours tonight.

It was nice to see our old friends again, but the running firefight while giving birth got too silly for words. Some other good stuff though…

I enjoyed it. A lot. My girlfriend, who never saw Farscape, enjoyed it also.

There were of course things I didn’t like . . .

SPOILERS AHOY!
A full season in four hours
What would have felt more comfortable drawn out over a season’s worth of episodes feels awfully cramped in four short hours. The quickly growing baby being a prime example.

Z’OMG! D’Argo faces death! Again!
We think he’s dead from being in space too long. We think he’s dead from getting hit by a wall of water. We think he’s dead from getting shot. Oh wait, he really is dead this time.

Sikozu, you bitch!
Her being the traitor just didn’t strike me as all that worthwhile of a plot point. The idea of Scorpius trying to deal with a relationship would have made great television had we had a full season of episodes, though.

Avast ye, Pirates!
Another pointless waste of valuable “last-Farscape-EVER!” time. No real bearing on the plot that I could see, other than another interrupted marriage scene.

It wasn’t perfect, and it’s a damn shame we didn’t get the season that would have really let this play out as it should have.

But “with a cherry on top”? That was pretty sweet…
