Request for recommendations: Awesome Action B-Movies

Glad someone mentioned Soldier, too. Fits this topic to an absolute capital T.

Brawl in Cell Block 99

Megaforce

My love for this stupid movie knows no bounds.

I would not ever in a million years call The Bad Batch an action movie. It’s a slow, meditative art movie occasionally punctuated by violence. (Also I didn’t like it very much, but that’s beside the point.)

My own suggestions:
Hardcore Henry - deeply ludicrous first-person movie with Sharlto Copley hamming it up in a surprising number of roles.
Enemies Closer - straight to video thriller with Jean-Claude Van Damme as a vegan terrorist with the most amazing haircut, and Orlando Jones as the entirely forgettable main character’s reluctant frenemy. (No, seriously, I cannot remember a single thing about the main character.)
Yakuza Apocalypse - Takashi Miike in gonzo mode. There are yakuza vampires that make other people into yakuza vampires by biting them. This is one of the less ridiculous elements of this movie.
Dead or Alive and sequels - also Miike, also gonzo, not related to the videogame series.
Maybe Dredd? It’s a fucking awesome movie, that’s not why the ?. I’m just not sure if it’s B-enough.
Tokyo Tribe - Words are insufficient to describe this movie.

I can also vouch for Universal Soldier: Regeneration, Kung Fu Hustle (and Stephen Chow’s previous film Shaolin Soccer), Crank (and Crank 2), Drive Angry.

SELECT * FROM “THE 80S”

I think this is supposed to be the movie’s metacommentary on acting.

Vin Diesel in (fill in the blank). Of course there’s Pitch Black and then The chronicles of Riddick and Babylon AD. I also watched The Scorpion King today on TV and I believe it fits the bill. It’s got the Rock when he was just becoming an action star… And he has hair!

Is it possible to have a running tally in he first message in the thread? I am trying to write all of these down!

Thanks for all the suggestions - you guys are awesome :)
Keep 'em coming - I’ll add a few that I’ve found elsewhere too.

You bet!
Let me edit it…

Wedlock - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103239/
Scanners - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081455/
Timecop - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111438/
Death Race - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452608/
No Escape - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1781922/
Demolition Man - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106697/

The 90s were great for this type of movie - the home video age.

Ah, Demolition Man! What a classic.

The chart you made is AWESOME!

I guess now my question is on B ranked movies does a lower score mean it is better? : )

I’ll add:

  • Miami Connection
  • Deadly Prey
  • Commando
  • Low Blow
  • Hands of Steel
  • Samurai Cop

Great list. Needs to be alphabetized so it’s easier for us to try to add to it.

I’m not sure what an action B-movie is. I take it that it’s different from a horror B-movie and a noir B-movie?

Does that really even reach the lofty heights of “B”?

Does The Bank Job count or is it too A quality?

Blind Fury: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096945/

Primal (2019) has an awesome plot synopsis. I’m gonna have to track that one down!
