Resident Evil 2 REmake (turning zombies into jam)

I’m watching Tom play this on his stream right now. I want to play this game. I can wait until after the deluge of big games coming out is over, but I definitely want to play this game.

It’s absurd how stacked Q1 is. I hope publishers realize that I’ll be all out of money for the rest of the year after Resi 2, Sekiro, Devil May Cry 5, and Metro Exodus release.

Looking forward to jumping into the remake tonight. I remember renting the first one with a buddy when we were in primary school, and attempting to play through the game without a memory card - now that was scary!

Only played a bit so far, but what I have seen is really well done. The lighting and sound is just awesome.

It’s a great remake. It does exactly what it’s supposed to.

Two remade thumbs up.

EDIT: Random comment - There were no USB keys in 1998… FAIL!

I love this remake to death

Also, I keep watching this and dying laughing

Oh hell yeah. I was wondering if there was going to be any more DLC.

The game is great, but what’s in the remake is mostly what was also in the original. So something comepletely new is much appreciated.

Very “retro” costumes also incoming:

Speaking of DLC, the "deluxe " edition stuff is pretty cool. I really like the sheriff costume and the original music and sound DLC brings the old music, which somehow sounds better to me.

Plus, I didn’t think I’d be this happy to hear the old “glourp” sound effect again.

Some global stats about the game:

https://www.residentevil.net/en/twostats.html

80% of players choose Leon first. So did I.

Way back when I played the original I choose Claire first. I dunno why, but it kinda worked out in the end as playing as Leon second AKA Side B was better because it is definitely the more interesting playthrough and I no longer have to worry about escorting anyone.

Wait, wasnt Claire side B? I think i played Leon originally because it was the first disc.

There are “2 paths” and “4 playthrough” variations

Leon A > Claire B
Claire A > Leon B

The B Side is longer and gives you the final ending.

Ohhh i didnt know that, cool.

I am not sure how the remake handles it though. In the original Mr. X doesn’t even show up until Side B. So if you only played through the game once as one character (Side A) you would have never seen him.

Well…

Mr.X shows up in all scenarios now, but he shows up earlier in “first runs”.

There’s still 4 versions of the game, two per character, but the game doesn’t call them A and B anymore. They call it first run and second run now. Maybe it’s because all 1st and 2nd runs are more similar than in the original, at least when it comes to bosses.

The 2ns runs are actually shorter by roughly half an hour because the early parts are removed.

I never played the original RE2 - and just started yesterday with Leon. Mr.X stresses me the fvck out. Feeling rushed is not how I like to play my games at all!

You are going to love RE3 then.

KFrom all the coverage of RE2 I have such an itch to try it, just to wander the police station if for no other reason. I fell into the same situation reading about RE7 and loathed it so much I wanted to scream. It seemed like part of the buy-in was this game is unfair, if you don’t like it leave. And I’m sure that appeals to some…

Well, yeah. :)

Or not unfair, but it does put a lot of pressure on the player and mess with player expectation to wrong-foot them. That’s kind of inherent to survival horror. A large part of the genre is juggling the immediate second-to-second decisions against where you think you might be ten minutes from now, and making panicky, wasteful choices that you pay for later is part of what players show up for.

If you’re looking for a stress-free experience, this is not the game for you.

Me, I love it to bits, and I expect it’ll place real high on my best of the year list.
