So.

  1. Your account got hacked before Trion closed the security hole in their login. It didn’t give anyone access to your info, it just let you log in to any account with a bypass.

  2. Your account also got hacked before Trion instituted their coin lock system.

  3. The email that gets sent to every account when an email change request comes through apparently didn’t reach you.

You’ve got a keylogger on your computer.

I got the #3, but by then the email was already changed, the confirmation email doesn’t get sent to the original email but to the new email.

again I point out the fact that if I have a keylogger, I got a lot more valuable accounts than rift with the lvl 25 bard!!! I have 2 wow accounts with tons of gold that’s not touched.

That doesn’t make any sense.

Having other game accounts doesn’t matter to the person going after your Rift account.

I mean I can think maybe it’s my fault, if I have multiple account stolen before now, but since I been playing mmo starting from original EQ, and this is the first time my account got hacked.

Trion does have a prior record of bad security…

So after hitting the level cap in the trial (thanks Discoballs!) I took the plunge an ordered Rift from Amazon.

So not I have to decide whether I should keep levelling my Defiant Rogue on whatever random server the game suggested for me, or roll an new character on Sunrise. You guys are playing goody-to-shoes Guardians right?

Neither of the factions are goody two shoes, really. Both sides are pretty much presented as flawed people on two sides of a divide more about philosophy of destiny than anything else.

It’s more about attractive vs ugly (which is partially how people judge good vs evil, but that’s another topic) rather than their backstories. The groupthink among more invested mmo players new to a game is often “well stupid people will just pick pretty races, so let’s avoid having to group with them and choose the ugly ones.”

I’m not sure how that will work in swtor though, since all the xXSephiroth92Xx people will want to play as sith. It’s a tough one.

You should play Defiant on Wolfsbane and join <Drop Bears>

The goody goody Guardians are the ones that destroyed the Defiant machinery and broke the Ward, letting Regulos in. I come from the future to tell you this, and save you from yourself. How’s that devotion to the Vigil working out for you?

Attractive vs ugly? Have you seen the Defiant character models? It’s hard to end up with facial features that are anything but attractive, you have to work at it. If anything, it’s pink vs. blue(and brown).

We enjoyed the trial weekend as well, and are sure to pick this up as soon as finances allow it. A great move by Trion to do a free weekend like this, all three of us were instantly taken by the game and can’t wait to start playing again.
I wonder how many more people who were on the fence will be picking this up now.

As for the sides argument:
Give me the guardians anyday. At least we have dwarves, and I could never take a race named after a food dish seriously! ( Bahmi )
Besides that, it sounds like Defiants are going to be the “cool” side where all the leet kiddies go, so I’d rather be on the other side with the grown-ups. :p

Guardians are blue, a cool color associated with calm, ice, and liberals.

Defiants are red, a warm color associated with frenzy, fire and conservatives.

Choose wisely.

From what I’ve seen so far, I think the Guardian zones and quests are more interesting, but maybe that’s because I like blue, or perhaps I’m a closet luddite.

You mean the religious zealots are the liberals and the technocrats are the conservatives?

You’re obviously mixing them up. Play either A) what your friends like or B) what you find appealing based on aesthetics, story, or abilities. Trying to pick your race or faction to avoid immature kids seems ridiculous like picking RP servers because they are more “mature.” Plus, there’s really no ugly races in Rift. They are all relatively attractive.

it is Faith and Order vs Technology and Self Reliance

-shrug- I found most the NPC’s on the guardian side to be so over the top I couldn’t stomach it.
Defiant loose most pvp stuff so I can’t see how we are the cool kids. I expect a large shift to guardian when folk get tired of loosing.
Then maybe we can get some sort of order in the warfronts. Not likely I know.

Also I visited both Sanctum and Meridian, and I am not sure why there is whining over Sanctum. It is just as pretty if a bit austere. I mean they have a tribunal for the inquisition there.
Still it is just as large, imposing and pretty as Meridian is.

I didn’t pick an RP server because of this, but I can’t help but share this quick anecdote. I normally play Guardian on Estrael, and wanted to check out Defiant so I chose a non-RP server some folks I know are playing on. The very first thing I read in zone-chat as soon as I log in is a series of inane conversations about “cawk” that went on for a good 15 minutes. I’ve never seen anything juvenile at all in the 5-6 weeks I’ve been playing on Estrael.

Plus, there’s really no ugly races in Rift. They are all relatively attractive.

Have you seen the dwarves? Wow do they suck. I don’t know how they screwed up dwarves, every other game developer gets them right. In Rift they look like gangly, pot-bellied gnomes more than stout, fierce warrior-stock. And they look moronic holding 2-handed weapons.

They really are among the worst dwarves in all of gaming.

And they run as if their underwear is stuck you-know-where. I usually love Dwarves, but I only have one among all my characters and that’s nearly more than I can stand.

I’m weird I guess, I hate dwarves in almost all the games, I don’t mind them in Rift

Yeah, you’re werid! Actually, I think it probably has to do with preconceptions about archetypes or something. Those of us for whom Rift’s vision of Dwarves is out of sync with our preconceptions find the little dudes appalling. Someone with different assumptions about the vertically challenged subterranean burrowers might view it differently.

So how is the endgame? I don’t know if I want to repeat the gear treadmill from WoW, so is there more to do than grind pvp or pve content? Also some rift forum posts suggest that in the endgame many people no longer participate in rifts etc. due to the lack of ‘proper rewards’.

Still pretty interested, the free weekend wasn’t 100% groundbreaking for me, but I would need to play semi-casually (1-2 hrs/day) anyways for the next few weeks, due to some real life-circumstances.
