Great! Thanks for all of that. Exactly what I was looking for and pondering. I am going to give it a whirl tonite and see how it goes. I think the only thing I will miss is smacking guys on the head with my giant hammer.
Personally I’ve grown to prefer Justicar for most of my Inquisitor self-healing needs. Bolt of Judginess and Sanction Heretic give you conviction (which powers Justicar heals), as does the ranged Justicar instacast. Plus you get neato stuff like Mien of Honor (-threat, +healing) and Salvation (trickle healing from damage done).
Oh, and I recently respecced to find that holy crap Bolt of Depravity and its associated talents are really neat. Definitely play around with them for proccy burstiness amusement.

What’s with the quests in the first city where the rewards are souls I haven’t specced into. Do you have to do each of those quests before you can choose those souls if you respec?

Yup…they are quick and easy. Just close a Rift, it will give you a stone thing in your bag. Click the icon next to the quest text on your screen, kill the badguy and turn in the quest and get a new soul. Do them all and you have them all.

That’s annoying. Why even make those quests?
It’s such a hassle. I have to pick one up at a time, run all the way to a rift, run all the way back and pick up another, etc. Terrible.

I assume it is because they just don’t want to give you everything up front…but that said, a 5 minute quest for each while not a big deal, does make you wonder why they even do that.
I suspect the tying of the soul quests to rifts in the early stages of the games is designed to get you participating in the invasions. It’s a way of giving you immediate, tangible rewards for engaging in a core game mechanic.

I’ve already done like 20 of them at level 14. There’s no shortage of participation either, as usually there are more than 15 people at each one, making them not even fun to do when everything dies in under 3 seconds. It’s a huge hassle to slowly walk across a zone to try and catch a 2 minute event that I’ve done many times before, repeatedly, for something that I should just have access to automatically.

Oh, so to get this Geomancer spec, I don’t have to find a blue crack and use the object on it to open a rift? I just need to close a rift then use the object?

Trust me, compared to the ways you used to have to get them, the quests are quite nice.
Correct.
And it’s not like you have to do them all at once, rossm. Do them when you have the time, while you’re doing other things.

got my account restored to me, the CSR was very helpful on the phone, hopefully all my characters are intact, they are looking into how did my account got hacked currently.
I logged on, all my characters are intact minus all of their equipment and gold though…
You also don’t need all the souls immediately, assuming you didn’t make a colossal mistake initially and pick the three wrong souls or something. While I wouldn’t object to having the souls simply available from the get-go, the current system isn’t that bad really. Now, think back to EQ2 at launch, and the 20-level grind to get to the class you actually wanted to play…now, that was some egregious annoyance.

They went through a couple of iterations in alpha, and the eq2 style was one of them.

“Better than it used to be” doesn’t excuse it. They shouldn’t be there at all.

Why? I mean, why level at all? You should be level 50 and have every soul, every piece of gear the moment you leave the starter area, right?
You have presented no compelling argument other than “it’s inconvenient.” Why do you feel you need every soul the moment you hit level 14?

There really isn’t a rush from a gameplay standpoint to get all the souls. Even 3 terrible incompatible souls with points spread willy nilly is more than sufficient to get you into the 30s and beyond. On my toons I ended up just making sure I picked up a soul quest everytime I went back to sanctum to sell/train etc.
On one side I guess all these “terrible” inconsequential things that Rift has done wrong shows how much it got “right”
ALSO
There are now two sliders to scale the size of player and NPC nameplates under Options -> Name.

This has to be one of the things that makes me respond to Rift really well. An amazing number of quality of life things the community has asked for have been added with seemingly no end in sight.

I have been playing the last week or so, and have made it to 23. Really the only criticism I have is that the quests are very repetitive and quite boring, and since I mainly am soloing it gets kind of boring after a while. Questing is very much just a means to an end rather than something that is enjoyable in itself. Breaking it up with warfronts has helped a lot, but am I right in thinking at low-levels there’s only one (pretty crappy) warfront available?
One warfront 1-20, then two 20-30, and three 30+ (my highest is 44 so I don’t know what comes after that).
One reason I play on a PvP server is that I too find questing kind of soporific. But when you have to be on the lookout for gankers it adds a bit of spice to things.
It’s standard brackets - 10 - 19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49 and then a 50 bracket for WF’s. Keep in mind the level boosting helps but isn’t a tota equalizer, level 39 characters are more effective than level 30’s even with the boost. Also some abilities (stealth) don’t get boosted.
As you level more WFs become available as well until you access all four. But at 50 the pvp doesn’t change much from say 29 except for balance and scaling issues.

There’s no need to be an asshole about it. I’m sorry I offended you by saying there’s an aspect of the game that isn’t perfect.
Why should you have to do an inconvenient quest to unlock each soul? We don’t have to camp spawns for days or any of the old annoying crap. Removing barriers to that kind of thing is what has moved the genre forward. Inconveniences that serve no purpose have no place in MMOs anymore. The less of them, the better.
Are you just being a dick, or do you really think the game is better with those quests in there?
