So how do the FtP changes work? I had an account I played maybe a year ago with whatever expansions were around at the time. Can I pick up again and play without a subscription now with no restrictions as a founder or whatever? What about any expansion content that showed up after I played?
I have a Raptr code for anyone new who wants to play the game. This will give you the 30 days of gametime that will get you to F2P, and you get credit for the game and expansion! Just send me a PM. First person to send me one. Must be a 6+ month veteran and post count > 50 to get this.
And it is gone!
The new FtP changes aren’t effective until June 12th. Since you, presumably, a previous purchaser/owner you will get the complete game with some additional character and bag slots. You will not get the expansion souls from Storm Legions.
You can play for free now, but you will have quite a few restrictions in place until 6/12 (e.g. char slots, equipment restrictions, level cap, server restrictions).
I would recommend doing the Raptr thing while the game is running before 6/12 in order to get the code for the Storm Legion expansion.

FYI - the raptr thing has run out. I grabbed a key for one kid, but they all evaporated before I got the other. Doh!
Yeah, I’m pretty cranky about that. I was halfway there on the playtime but then a) it crashed overnight and b) all the codes evaporated. I’m really hoping they open it back up but not counting on it at all.
Damn, those disappeared fast.
Oh well, back to LOTRO :)

Yeah, that was balls.
I already have the game and the expansion, but I was going to get another key for someone here, since you don’t really have to go out of your way to do it, and I literally hit Experienced 2 minutes after the last key was given away. The worst part was that about two-thirds of the way through my playing the keys went from a few hundred left to 3000+ and then dropped to under a couple of hundred, like they had added more by accident and then taken them away.
Oh well, if they add more keys down the line I’ll pop in real quick and grab somebody one, if not them’s the breaks.
Yeah. I mean, I can’t really get too upset about not getting shit for free when it’s pretty amazing that that deal was being offered at all. But I would have waited until F2P hit to pick Rift back up if I’d known the Storm Legion deal was gonna vanish out from under me, done something else with Friday night. Oh well.
You could have just left the game’s executable running overnight. I did the raptr thing myself, because I just can’t resist a deal.
This is what I did, futzed around for a bit then just let the game run overnight. Raptr didn’t care if I was playing or not, as long as I didn’t shut down the game. Given how exploitable the deal was, it seems unlikely they’ll be getting more keys.
BTW, thanks for the heads-up on this Stusser. I’d tried this game a couple of years ago on one of their free weekends, but I was wrapped up in other games at the time and Rift didn’t really grab me. I’m interested in giving it another shot though.
I did. It crashed forty minutes after I went to bed. But it would have been too late anyway.

The Raptr codes have been refilled.
I’m new to this whole Raptr thing, so is this for new players only? In other words, there’s no way of telling Raptr how many hours I previously put into Rift like it did with my Steam games?
Exactly. It’s based on the number of hours you ran the app while Raptr was also running.
I had my 18 month subscription acheivement but still had to start my game-time from scratch. I still haven’t hit the Elite level where you get the raptor pet.
The F2P info from the twitch.tv broadcast on the 17th was very informative. The bonuses they are going to give to existing subscribers is really nice. 7k loyalty per month of previous service, bonus store credits based on how long you’ve subscribed, etc. They also are giving folks who bought the SL collectors edition a free $50 credit in the online store.
All-in-all, I’m very impressed with what they are doing with their F2P model. After watching EQ and TOR totally screw the pooch in F2P (imho), I was at first upset to hear Rift was doing it. Now I’m actually looking forward to it.
Yep, Trion is really embracing F2P with Rift. It’s a customer-friendly approach. Like I said earlier, they deserve to succeed.

Thanks for the heads up - I suspected they might refill, but they waited until I was at work. However, they still claim 3000+ left as of right now, so grab one while you can!
Awesome; I signed up to Raptr, downloaded the client, entered my steam profile id, and it gave me the expansion for free based on the time I spent playing Rift back when it was released! :D
And I’m pretty sure I didn’t even need to install the client, I just got ahead of myself…
Yeah, if you were lucky enough to have bought the game through Steam, it can use Steam’s time tracking to backfill. I got my copy of Rift through D2D, alas. However, I scored my Experienced rank again tonight and snagged my Storm Legion key no trouble. Apparently there’s well over 12,000 keys loaded currently. They reupped the Stone Spaulders vanity item, too.
Grats! I got my 2 vanity items as well, and I read they were planning to keep the keys stocked until the F2P hits next month.

How does one sign up for the Raptor thing?
