Nope, you can get it using the Rift Lite, which is a freebie.
Well then, I guess I know what I’m doing then.
The F2P model is up on their Public Test Server. I’m hoping the credit prices they have on there, specifically for the dimension items, are placeholders. Dimensions, for those new to the game or who haven’t played it, are essentially player housing on steroids. You get your own private sandbox that you can fill with items. Since you have full control over the size, tilt, and position of the items (and with there being no set collision limitation), people have made some amazing and creative dimensions. It’s become a mini-game for some folks. The 2.3 patch is introducing a huge chunk of new dimension items, as well as 2 new dimensions. My wife plays in her dimension more than she plays the game itself, so she’s been excited to see what’s going in.
Anyway, long story short, the prices (both plat and credits) are so high that they may be pricing my wife out of the game. Trees are $2 - $5 each, $8 for a fence, etc… It’s not really micro-transactions at this point; you’re practically buying a DLC for each small set of items you want. And unlike The Sims, you don’t get to use that item repeatedly; if you buy a tree, you get that 1 tree. Need a second one? That’ll be another fiver.
Being that it’s on the PTS, I’m going to assume those prices will be adjusted.
Well…but, haven’t you bought dimension items from vendors and gotten them as drops and fishing rewards and suchlike up to now. My assumption would be that those prices are for people who don’t want to wait and have loads of discretionary income.
They’ve been very receptive to pricing feedback so far, I’m sure that will get sorted out.
I expect that cosmetic items will continue to be sold on the cash shop, though, because most consumers feel that’s OK.

On the Raptr thing, I get logged out for inactivity. Seems like I have to actually play for 13 hours.
I ended up getting logged out, but the game was still running (sitting at a screen saying “you’ve been logged out due to inactivity”). Raptr still counted that time for me (gave me 22 hours of credit).
As for the dimension items, yep, we still have the stuff that existed in the past. The rub is more the pricing of the new stuff (there looks to be close to a 3-fold increase in overall items). But as I said, I’m sure they’ll work out the pricing. I’m fine paying for items, just would prefer $.50 as opposed to $5. :)

They have stated the prices are placeholders.

I hope they are doing some sort of dynamic demand driven pricing scheme.

Ok this is weird but it could be my own foolishness.
Had an account long ago, got my Raptr Storm Legion and decided to pay a month just to get back in it until F2P next month.
My issue is that I have not moved from level 50. I have gotten the “level up!” message twice so far but I am still sitting on 50. I am pretty sure the level cap was upped to 60 but apparently not for me?
Anyone with this same issue or have an idea…did I miss something that allows me to move beyond 50? (the game can be fairly complicated especially if you haven’t played in a couple of years)
Once you hit 50, there are 2 level type: regular levels, which go up to 60, and Planar Attunement levels, which go up to 1000+. Planar Attunement can be accessed by pressing “u” and the points are spent in specific planar powers. Most of the points give very minor upgrades (+1 dex per point, +1% damage to water creatures, +5% swim speed, etc), but you get PA fast and easy enough that they add up quickly. There are also major bonuses (self-only buff that gives +60 dex on a 1-hander for 2 hours). It’s best to find the planar that gives the buff you want and focus on that one at first. Rogues, for example, tend to do Air first since it gives +dex, +ap for daggers/swords, and the +dex weapon buff.

Ah ok maybe I was seeing Planar leveling …makes a bit more sense now. Thanks very much for that.
I also paid for a month; it feels like 50-52 takes takes longer than subsequent levels - although it still isn’t that bad. I’m horribly inefficient when it comes to leveling (I putz around a lot, often spending large chunks of time doing non-productive things) yet still I’m 55 after a couple weeks. There are plenty of paths to take, too. I tend to primarily quest and do rifts/invasions, plus as much crafting as resources allow. One thing I miss from the early beta days were the massive zone invasions. According to my SO, Trion apparently nerfed those due to folks complaining. Shame, really, for me that’s was always the most fun.

I’ve been playing this a lot, lately. Unfortunately, I stall around lvl 23-25 or so, and start a new character. The new souls are pretty good though and are fun to try out.
Same here. Currently have a tanky warrior up to level 27 and still stuck on the first zone grinding out the last few artifacts I need to get all the achievements there. One thing I will say is that the instant adventures level you like crazy. I think I’ve gotten 10 levels from doing that alone. Getting anxious to move on to the next zone though.
For those who enjoy PvP, it is a very effective way to level. Player kills are worth exp, as is finishing the warfront (you get more exp from winning, as you can imagine). You also get boxes when you win that give you level appropriate rare gear. When I stalled out in my mid-30’s, I started doing PvP now and then to break up the questing and IAs.
Okay some thoughts on this after hitting level 32 and finally getting the completed achievement on the first zone (Freemarch). Overall, I’m still enjoying it immensely and am really looking forward to starting the next zone (Stonefield) tomorrow. I have to admit, I kind of dismissed the lore/story when I first played it when it came out, but I really tried to immerse myself by reading all the lore on their website before playing and then the books and quests in the game and I think I appreciate it a lot more now, which is making this attempt much more enjoyable.

[li]The popup sounds and images for accepting and completing quests and other things like events and achievements is just pure candy.
[/li][li]I find the music and particularly the sound direction to be superb.
[/li][li]Collecting artifacts is addicting (on the same level or better than EQ2).
[/li][li]Instant Adventures are a fantastic alternative to dungeons. Lots of variety in terms of the quests and bosses you face.
[/li][li]Mentoring down to do quests/instant adventures/dungeons/rifts is VERY worthwhile in terms of loot and XP. Example: a level 50 can mentor down to level 10 and get relatively the same loot/XP as they would get doing level 50 content.
[/li][li]The dimensions are really well done, allowing for a broad range of creativity.

The one bad thing I can say right now about the game is that the chat is HORRID. I mean barrens-level stuff here. Do yourself a favor and turn it off.
That is interesting you have found it to be that way. Perhaps it is server and/or faction dependent because I found it to be the opposite. I typically play Guardian on RP servers, fwiw.
I’m on the RP server faeblight or whatever. The 1-29 channel has been constantly filled with either political, religious, or troll chat since I started a week ago. Rarely do I see any zone chat, so you either have to sift through the 1-29 channel to get any nuggets related to the game or you turn it off and get nothing. And it’s only going to get worse when F2P goes live. The good thing is that I’m past level 30 so I can get get the (presumably) mature chat now. If you’re on that server, go have a look at the 1-29 chat. It be bad. :)
Chat has gotten bad over the last couple of weeks. Seems to be stemming from a flood of new folks coming in due to the F2P announcement and getting their freebie from Raptr. I’ve kept 1 - 29 on for now since there are a lot of true new folks and returning folks asking legit questions. But yeah, WoW style trolling is starting to take over to the point that I’m likely going to have to leave the channel soon on my mains.
Messed around for a while on the PTS today. I was weak and bought a credit bundle (they are doing a deal where you get 1.5 - 2 credits on Live for every credit you spend on PTS. Any credits you buy on PTS but don’t spend are transferred to Live without the multiplier). The game store is pretty slick and convenient, and I’m honestly impressed by the loyalty system (for now). Spent the majority of my credits on dimension item lockboxes. The new dimension stuff they’ve added is overwhelming. I’m going to need to give my wife a Rift allowance or I’m going to come home someday to find an awesome dimension and an empty bank account.
Speaking of credits… the rumor is that patrons (subscribers) won’t be getting a monthly store credit. The only advantage, purchase wise, is that you get a 10% discount at the credit store. If that’s true, I am going to have buyers remorse over the 1 year sub that I purchased before the F2P announcement. 15% bonus currency and 2 hours a day of exp boosts isn’t really worth the monthly sub, imho. Patron subs are going to need to have a credit component thrown in or I don’t foresee a lot of folks choosing to go the subscription route.
