DeepT, I haven’t seen that with rifts yet, and I’m in the 20’s somewhere, so I guess it depends. My brother did login at one of the places we stopped questing at for the day and ended up getting ganked in the middle of an invasion, so there is that.

On the 1 hour buff thing… I’m not sure… all games are going to have their tedious systems. Rift does a pretty damn good job of being friendly to the player. I don’t think the 1 hour thing personally bothers me, but I can see where it might frustrate.

That’s probably why there isn’t a bank and/or auctioneer in the actual zone - from what I’ve seen those guys are always inside the city, which to judge from the chat channel, is an entirely separate zone.

And as far as pets being more clearly identified as tanking or dps, I agree they need to make things a bit more clear. I’ve heard more than one Necromancer ask why he would use the pet he gets with 12 points over the one he starts with. Maybe they need to label the tank pets as things that “generate additional threat” or how the dps pets “do damage but have low threat” (this is how they talk about tank abilities in the talent tree, so it would mirror that).

I haven’t noticed the same “mr. big evil” invading back to back, actually. It seems like it cycles through a few different ones, but I could be wrong on that and it might just be totally random. I just don’t think I’ve ever had to help defeat, say, the Claw of Regulos twice in a row.

Theres a lore explanation to why NPC’s can ‘revive’? I don’t understand why NPC’s that are killed by a Rift invasion can “re-spawn” in the world. Are all Jesus?

If a NPC is killed, must be forever. This will also force people that is doing quest for that NPC to protect it, so if you are doing a quest for “Judas”, and he is killed, you lost all your work.

Also, players with full plate sould not be able to swim. And rogues sould get bleeding wounds that reduce his health to zero.

Also, rogues sould be able to pickpocketing money from NPC’s.

Also, how is that a mage can cast a spell that last 1 hour and follow him around? only very powerfull wizards sould be able to create spells that last that long, and will remove the wizard ability to do anything else (because he has to mantain concentration on the spell). Make so a spell last forever / days… but is limited to a area… also make so spells can be corrupted/ have errors… so a spell intended to heal everyone inside a buble, poison everyone inside. How is that wizards never make a mistake casting spells? thats is beaking my inmersion.

/just kidding

I suspect the 1 hour buff thing is more to prevent a buff bot that just buffs a raid or dungeon then logs or idles back at the city. An hour is long enough so you aren’t recasting it all the time, but short enough that it doesn’t cover you for an entire session or dungeon.

Back in DAOC having a buff bot was all the rage :(

I’m already bored of tier 1 and 2 invasion bosses. They are exactly like keep gates from WAR except they move around a little. I worry about how much fun invasions will be long term.

If you are burned out on rifts already, then perhaps RIFT isnt a game for you?

Where did you get burned out from me commenting about one part of Rift? I’m more interested in PvP anyway.

I just don’t see the invasion bosses in the first 2 tiers as very good gameplay. Tom calls it “raid like” but is it really? You can’t just zerg raid bosses in most mmos. It’s no different from beating on a gate in WAR. Just get lots of people hitting attack and heal.

Very good point. Especially since some of the long term buffs are already permanent - Justicar’s Dex buff or Shaman’s Str buff, for example. I don’t see what makes them so special and why others can’t be like that too.

Out of 7 buffs that Justicar needs to re-cast after death, 2 or 3 are permanent, the rest are on 1 hour duration and none of them survive through death.

In the Codex WF, after death I am buffing up while running and by the time I am all buffed, I am almost at the first flag. It’s ridiculous.

I was merely pointing out that the game centers around Rifts, hence the name - and if you don’t like the mechanics, perhaps the game wasnt for you? I wasn’t trying to be flippant or anything.

Instead of burned out on rifts, I could have written bored by, but its the same result, though.

The game has other things like dungeons which I quiet enjoy, warfronts, open pvp. When it comes to invasion bosses, I still do them once in a while because I need the rewards but it’s a yawnfest. The bosses look cooler than WAR door, so I guess that’s a positive :P

To prevent this from happening, all Rift’s buffs (AFAIK) affect people who are in your group only. If a buff bot is removed from the group, all his buffs go with him.

As for the back to back invasions, I haven’t see that either. I guess it depends on your definition of “back to back”. Also I noticed that as you level through the zones, the invasions happen less often, probably because there are less people in higher lvl zones.

I’m pretty sure invasions are broken on Wolfsbane in Freemarch. The last 2-3 days have had major water invasions non-stop around the clock. As soon as one ends it restarts itself no more than 10 minutes later. These aren’t different rifts btw, they’re the same one over and over and over.

Server just went down for an update so hope that it addresses that issue.

Hooray!

* Made a number of changes to how NPCs react to higher level characters:

 • Characters under the effect of Exposed no longer have an additional chance to be dismounted.
 • Reduced the minimum aggro range of monsters significantly below a character’s level.
 • Increased the rate at which aggro range reduces as a character’s level increases relative to a mob.!

I dunno what the name of the zone my character is in. I am on the defiant side, level 16 with the big city. Anyway this zone has been under constant invasion for the past 3 days during the hours of 8pm to 10:30pm EST with only brief intervals now and then when it is not being invaded. By brief I mean like 10 minutes at a stretch maybe a bit longer or shorter.

I am just tired of it. I am sure that one time, maybe might first night it was a water invasion although I might have been mistaken since I was new and it may have simply been a few water rifts around. However the rest of them are death rifts, hence the purple. Regulos makes some speech then we get the whole charge the generators thing and the wander gank squads of monsters taking places over. At some point it ends only to start a few minutes later with Regulos (who was just defeated or banished or whatever the hell happens when we “win”) with the same damn speech again. Non stop for the past 3 days. What is the point of defending and defeating this asshole when he comes back a few minutes later?

I really want to like this game, but it is trying its best to chase me away.

Yeah, that sounds bugged. I’ve been seeing invasions every hour or so in Scarwood and Moonshade.

Yes, on my server it’s similar in Gloamwood (on the Guardian side). The next zone after that - Scarlet Gorge - we have invasions maybe every 2 hours or more. Yesterday we had one as soon as I logged in at 10 pm and after that we had none until 1 am.

Since the frequency seems to be dependent on players’ population, it seems like they forgot to set some limits, which affects the highly populated low level zones on some servers.

That seems reasonable. Is Freemarch still slammed with players? I haven’t been there for some time.

Anyone have thoughts on these 2 PvP cleric build ideas:

Build 1 - 80% Inquisitor 20% Justicar

Build 2 - 50% Inquisitor 50% Justicar

I’m trying to figure out which build will be better.

Build 1 has more DPS. I’ve used it in WFs and noticed very high numbers even when I’m the lowest level in the tier. Yet it’s not squishy and has some decent survivability.

Build 2 is more group friendly. It has more CC (1 more root and stun). Combat Rez! It’s more tanky. Extra tankiness and group utility comes at the cost of less damage overall.

I guess both these build might be viable but I’m just looking for some feedback if anyone has tried similar specs.

P.S. I’m ignoring the PvP role for now since it doesn’t really come into play until you are well into level 50.

A friend talked me into buying and installing this yesterday. (This thread pushed me over the edge.)

Once again I’m paralyzed at the character creation screen. A) It’s bothering me to no end that Mathosians are supposedly from northern tibes from, you know, the north, with snow and ice and whatnot, yet the facial hair options are like, a 70’s pornstache or fifteen different variations of stubble. Where are the damn beards?! B) There are some seriously emo haircuts. I had to take a break and write some poetry about my lonely sadness after scrolling through half a dozen of them. C) Even with the haircuts, the elves aren’t too fruity or foppish. Thank god. D) The Dwarves appear to be Dwarf, Gnome, and Halfling from all other games rolled into one. I don’t love it.

My plan is to try Stormcaller/Elementalist if I can manage to get past character creation. Any impressions on them specifically? I think they look good on paper. I know there’s been a good deal of QQ over mages in this thread, but that’s honestly part of the appeal.
