You seem to be misunderstanding me. I don’t really care if you post nothing but whiny screeds in MMO threads. I was just confused why you play them at all when all you do is whine. But then you answered my question:

I like the game, I just hate losing all the time.

So you like winning, but when you start losing you need to vent. That’s kinda immature, but hey, whatever floats your boat. It would be nice though if you put some more thought into your posts, rather than just spewing your irritation du jour onto the screen. For example:

Here’s a number-crunching thread on the subject, though I’m sure linking that will rage you. Oh well!

Why would that irritate me? It’s an interesting link that provides actual information on the game. Honestly, I’d prefer more posts like that (even with all the childish snark) instead of your usual fare.

Well im done, the imbalance in pvp and the HORRIBLE pop on our sever has just taken any love I had for the game and turned it into total hate. did a /who in stillmoor today at 6pm and there were 6 people and 2 were from our guild.

Tom was totally right, we should of stayed and delt with the severs q, take a good 20 to 40 min for a WF to pop and when it does its 4v5 or 3v6.

Had so much hope for the game, but it has been a totally and complete disappointment to me

Considering some of the earlier complaining you’ve done in this thread, I can’t say I can work up much sympathy.

I agree completely.

Rift is a fantastic MMO, and I’m finding all the mechanics either work extremely well, or they’re almost there and it’s easy to see how they’ll get them sorted.

FWIW, I also think Tom was right. I’ve been leveling toons on both Sunrest and Wolfsbane, and both servers just seem so much more alive than sleepy ol’ Molinar.

Rift is a very tight and well polished mmo. The pvp is hit or miss. I agree with some that the WF can be frustrating at times. PUGing often results in getting rolled the majority of the time. I play defiant.

Lately however, my experience in T1 as a rogue ranger has been fairly positive. I am at the top of the charts most WFs and we seem to be winning more than our fair share of WF (even in PUGs).

Ranged rogue dps in T1 is teh uba. ;-)

I think the sever pop is a HUGE problem, and ill agree with you that its a very well done game, but I love pvp and just put up with pve, I find pve in any mmo about boring as all hell.

Log in, q for a WF wait 30 min, and is 4v6. I cant do that anymore. Put in a pvp system that lead to open pvp, and balance the pvp just a bit would do wonders. On Molinar there just is none, even at Iron Peak, (think thats what its call) I see maybe 2 defient, no one attacks anyone, and I sure in the hell wont, as a mage I have no chance at all.

Im not by any means putting the game down, but for me it has been a HUGE disappointment. Sever merge, do something with balance, and give people a reason to open word pvp, and im all in again.

Really, what server are you on? On briarcliff it’s usually between 2-5 minutes for me, and 80% of the time it will be a fairly large fight.

Molinar, its like a ghost town now :(

I’m seriously considering level up my characters on Sunrest instead of Molinar. I never voiced my opinion when the Wanderers officers were considering whether or not to switch servers, but I was against it for two reasons:

[ol]
[li]world population on a PvP server for open world PvP (yeah, it’s a huge factor)[/li]
[li]the Sunrest queues would eventually die down (which they have)[/li][/ol]
The Wanderers are now “stuck” on a desolate PvP server. My suggestion: re-activate the guild on Sunrest before we all die of “ghost-town boredom.” :-)

I tried to find my way to some of those places in stonefield and I couldn’t figure out how to get to the places. If anyone has a guide to these with instructions on how to get to said goody caches, please post it.

Wasnt a choice we wanted to make, but at the time, we thought it was the right one. As it turns out, it was very bad choice. But what do you do when people who want to play are in a 6 hour q?

All we can do is prey for sever transfers. Who knows when that will happen

Er, no. Just…no. I love it when a Defiant Rogue tries to tell me about playing a Guardian Cleric.

First, warfronts don’t spawn at 4 to 8. Trion keeps them pretty well balanced in terms of population admitted. You might have someone quit that creates a population imbalance. You might have players who go AFK. But the raw numbers are always within 1 or 2 people at the start. Look again.

Two, I get to actually see (ya know, cause they’re on my side) who is in a healing spec and who isn’t as a Guardian. In most warfronts, there’s one or two out of 10 who are healing…including myself. Just because there are a lot of Guardian clerics doesn’t mean that there are a lot of healers. You’ll find relatively few healers simply due to the problems mentioned before, especially in terms of the points you get (or rather, don’t get) for healing. It’s funny, because as a Guardian, I listen to the same shit except it’s the “Guardians don’t heal and Defiant do”.

Three, I have the PvP soul. I’m now working on getting it leveled since I’m 50. It’s not bad, but it really does force a major compromise when dealing with Cleric souls. You’ll find a lot of PvP specs leave out the Templar altogether simply because it tends to gimp Clerics in other ways in PvP.

Fourth, you do know there are a number of cleric souls that have no healing talents, right? You know that the healing souls have virtually no DPS, right? You do know that the healing souls are focused on HoTs (Warden), AoE (Sentinel) or single-target (Purifier) healing and not all 3, right? You know there is no cleric spec that offers healing, enough damage resistance to stay alive more than 5 seconds and DPS, right? If I can heal through your damage like in your example, it means that I can’t kill you simply because I don’t have the DPS skills needed to do so.

Yeah, every other class really has one OP PvP soul. Clerics don’t. It doesn’t mean we need one, it just means the others probably need to be tuned down a bit. But I’m not lamenting on the state of the class because I still have fun with it. I rolled a Cleric to heal - as I do in virtually every MMO - not to pew-pew or even compete in PvP. The ability to occasionally tank or pew-pew are just added bonuses.

Been in a WF that started yes 4v6, and by the time it ended it was 4v8. Does it happen all the time? no, but it did happen, we just ended up talking at the spawn because there was no use in trying to do anything.

I’ve been in warfronts that got lopsided too (both ways) but every single time it was due to folks bailing out of the warfront. Started one that was a 7 v 5, went to a 9 on 8 and then ended as a 9 on 3 (with the timer counting down to shut down the warfront due to not enough people on the other side). Not much Trion can do in that case.

There were only queues that long during the first weekend, before they put in the anti afk measures.

Still genuinely interested in this game, but it appears that proper server selection is crucial.

Thoughts on normal vs. digital download deluxe edition (and its’ perks?)

Go for the collector’s edition. You will love the free mount and the extra bag space.

Wendelius

Razarok, I did the Amazon digital for 39.99. Both it and the DVD edition are now 42 Amazon. My digital version was without issue. One thing that did come up…and I am not sure if this is still valid, but once I got the game, I went into my account page and I had the option to upgrade to the CE for only 10.00.

The 24 slot bag and a mount right away…totally worth 10 dollars.

If you decide to go Defiant, the Drop Bears are on Wolfsbane and there is never a lack of population. My queue times have come down drastically lately- they seem to be nil or a few minutes only now during the week. I imagine they might still be longer on Friday or Saturday nite but what I do is queue up, go make a nice Mai Tai, and sip that whilst waiting to get on.

heh jinx

I’ll disagree on the value of the collector’s edition, and I’m a pro at wasteful spending. Sure, it’s ten bucks, but it doesn’t take very long to come up with the cash for a mount in-game, and I have yet to run into an issue with bag space.

But you have to grind those 2 plat with each and every one of your chars. All of mine are riding places at level 6 and I’m free to spend my money on other things (for instance, pursuing trade skills and the auction house).

It’s true it’s debatable whether it’s worth the money. And you can upgrade from your account page afterwards. But both my wife and I are glad for the convenience.
