where are we going and why?

Good point. I believe that Rift has had the cleanest launch of any mainstream MMO ever. In terms of content, it’s right up there with the original WoW.

I’m curious - what makes you say that? I know there were a shit-ton of balancing issues that Trion rolled out this patch, but I’m astounded that they could launch their 1.1 with a major content upgrade and not miss a beat. I played for 4 hours last night and everything simply worked.

I was having this problem too. It seems to be caused by using mouse buttons as hotkeys. I remapped my thumb buttons to keystokes via the mouse driver and the problem went away.

FYI, this problem appears to have been fixed in the patch.

Yeah, I don’t get it either.

Any time an MMO does a class-balancing patch that nerfs stuff, you get the kind of absurd emo drama like that, though. Makes you wonder if any of the folks wringing their hands have ever played an MMO before.

I’m not sure that’s the source of his angst, so that’s why I’m curious to see what he meant by his comment.

If that’s the case then I really don’t get it. They addressed a bunch of stuff that the community wanted–like changing the exposed debuff, contribution in rifts and public events, AFK’s in Warfronts, etc…and then they added in a bunch of content.

Rhino, I apologize if I mis-characterized you or your post…but yeah, not seeing the problem.

IMO Rift has much much more content than the original WoW. Stuff like battlegrounds and heroic instances were introduced to WoW way after the launch (a year after?). All you could do in the original WoW at lvl 60 is farm UBRS and Molten Core, both of which involved raiding, so if you didn’t want to raid, you had nothing to do.

Has anyone seen anything related to the event yesterday? I wonder are there supposed to be some new kinds of rifts spawning or what? I didn’t really notice anything new.

PvP-wise, no big surprises. Mages seem to be a bit stronger but nothing like “omg, nerf mages”, at least after 7 or 8 WF’s I played yesterday.

suppose if one was going by the rift forum posts the current state of the game would be…

Shamans, and any mage rule pvp
warriors are free kills, and rogues afk hide behind walls

and course pve doesn’t exist

Don’t bother playing anything else

Truth is none of the above is true. I did notice that my mages didn’t feel so much like pulling teeth to get that last ounce of oomph out. I like to play odd combos (domi, archon, chloro)
and flat out a elementalist/storm/domi is overkill
I have a shaman/justicar/warden that is plugging away. I need to spend time on my warrior. I wasn’t going the fotm route so I wonder what she plays like now.

I will note that I am pve. I have tried the pvp server route and I tire of being other peoples content.

Go into the main town. There was definitely weird stuff going on in Sanctum. I think you might need to pickup the quests in order to see it. There were some quest givers right outside the cathedral in Sanctum. I assume something similar is going on for Defiants.

Not only is this one of the smoothest launches for an MMO, it’s probably just one of the smoothest, most polished launches ever, in any game genre. It’s a pretty sad state of affairs what has become acceptable as “launch ready”.

Odd, did they add something to Shamans? They weren’t very good for PvP.

There’s a warrior in my guild who always gets top death blows and damage in WFs and he was still doing it last night.

I know the official forums are usually full of shit anyway, just wondering why those rumors got stared.

Yeah, definitely bullshit. Shamans, for example, haven’t received any buffs in this patch, why would they become the rulers of PvP all of a sudden. I am playing Sham/Just and haven’t noticed any difference. And yes, Shaman is a very mediocre melee dps soul (at least until the 31-point talent), I am playing it to add some dps to my highly survivable Justicar.

Mages are not a free meal anymore and definitely affect the fights more now but it’s not to the point where I fear them more than, let’s say, Champs. I still kill them fine, just like any other class (except for some rogue combo that stunlocks and kills me all the time, can’t track the exact build so far).

Oh yeah, I saw those. But the repeatable quest in Sanctum is kind of lackluster (use the thing 3 times and kill 3 easy mobs), I was wondering about the supposed invasion. I haven’t noticed being invaded yet. :)

Warriors are still dangerous, especially to mages. They’re maybe not gods among men, but they sure are tough to kill and when played well they’re a real threat. As it should be.

Yeah, the rewards didn’t look particularly exciting to me either. I was out in Stillmoor when Alsbeth came calling earlier today. I’m not sure if it was just a standard Stillmoor region wide invasion or something new. I just checked and I didn’t get an achievement for it, but I did get a AncientSourceshard.

If it was patch 1.1 related it wasn’t really any different from standard invasions. So I’m guessing there’s a good chance it was just a standard invasion (first time questing in Stillmoor), but it does seem strange that defeating her didn’t earn an achievement.

I was online last night when that world event bitch opened death rifts in Silverwood, and managed to collect a sizable number of those world event stones (or whatever they’re called). It was the longest lasting single rift I’d ever encountered in Silverwood. Minions were appearing non-stop!

This event is slowly starting to wind me up. There should be a level limit for which you get credit for the Death rifts.

Yesterday, I was thinking: Live and let live. Today, every time a Death rift opens and my level 13 bravely steps in, I have a level 30 or 50 jumping in within a minute to close it. Often, they are closed before I can ride there and I can see the high level char riding away on his/her fast mount. Let the level 50’s close Rifts in their zone!

I agree. This is quite annoying.
