I would like a bigger tech tree and a more fleshed out strategic game. I find the overworld stuff mostly annoying.
I would be interested in a better motivation to move out and create new colonies
One of the few games I’ll consider paying full price for DLC. I’ve gotten so much fun out of this in the past.
Not sure I’ll bite right at release, mostly due to other scheduling issues. But when I’m free, I’m in.

v1.4 went live today and broke most of my mods and trying to get back to 1.3xxxx isn’t working. Come on, man!
Must have coincided with the new DLC release today. Which at 25 bucks strikes me as pretty pricey given the base game is only 31 bucks.

Yea, I’m holding off because of that price. Way higher than I would have expected. How much content is actually in there for that much? It doesn’t look like that much, but I hope I’m wrong.
Tynan has a cult following, I’m sure the faithful will pay the price for more content.
And you know good on them.
For me I’ve already played hundreds of hours in this one and moved on so no amount of new content moves the needle.

Go back to 1.3 they said… it’ll work fine, they said. Can’t even make it to the main menu.
Yeah. I’m a cult member. RimWorld is a top 3 game for me, so I will pay pretty much whatever.
I am waiting for my current EU4 game to end (Go Lubeck), which will give mods a chance to catch up
Hey I get it man. My steam review called this my one game on an island.
When you do a run with this DLC circle back to the thread with impressions.
And you’re right, mods will take a month or more to catch up.
I also don’t mind full price for RimWorld DLC, given how much enjoyment I’ve gotten since beta, but will wait a few weeks for the best quality of life mods to catch up.
Here is a good video of changes from the new patch only (not the full DLC)
Love the additional customization options and QoL improvements
A rare RimWorld sale has appeared!
On Fanatical, the newest DLC is 12% off, and the other two DLCs have historically low discounts as well. 5% coupons from recent purchases can be applied. Also, if you have Topcashback, Fanatical is 6.3% cashback right now.

edit: Note that Fanatical is in the UK, so use a credit card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees if possible.
Which of the other dlcs are must haves?

Thanks. I just bought ideology. I already had royalty. I haven’t played the game in years though. Once the inevitable patch hits, I’ll start a new game. Maybe I’ll pickup the new DLC in a year or so.
I haven’t had a chance to try either yet, but from what I’ve read from people’s comments:
- Base game is good enough for hundreds of hours of gameplay
- Ideology adds a lot of replayability by adding roleplaying of different communities/religions/etc
- Royalty is more of a content update and most people seemed to like it for the psionics weaponry
People generally loved both, but it sounded like Ideology would be the best one to grab first.
I agree with this, Ideology adds a bit more depth with different playstyles. For example if you pick Raiders you are forced to raid settlements to keep the morale up (game auto generates them nearby if you pick this meme), Transhumanist you have to rejuvenate and implant artificial bodyparts to keep them happy etc.
There is also a game mode which is fluid ideology, basically start with a base meme and you can keep changing it when you suceed certain goals in the game. This is the most fun for me and i always play this mode.
Royalty is just extra content, psionic weapons, extra items related to nobles and extra implants you can get that upgrade your colonists like Drill arms, or armor skin glands. Also adds another game ending related to rising up in the noble ranks.
Has anyone played the Biotech DLC yet? Wondering how it stacks up. I don’t have any DLC, be nice if they bundled them all.
Steam had a bundle where you got all three with Biotech I thought.
I usually play Tribal with slow starts, so I don’t see most mid-game/late game content quickly, certainly not on a Biotech start yet. But …
It has a lot of layered content. The genetics system and children show modified game features almost immediately. The content interweaves well with esp. Ideologies. I like it for “game as toy” and no run being like a prior run. So for me this is great since the permutations of what I can play just grew.
I think due to the layering I’d rank the expansions
Ideology > Biotech > Royalty
Though Biotech has more content, the layering of some of it on top of Ideology makes me chose that order. If you get them one by one, that’s the order I’d buy then add to the game. If someone goes from no game to game with all DLC, I’d even recommend playing it without the DLC enable for a few runs.
I really like Loyalty cause it helps structure the quest system.
But I would agree it offers the least of the DLCs so far.

Do the Rim World DLC’s come with QoL improvements and do those improvements get patched into the vanilla game?
