Is that geyser roofed in? If you put a geothermal on it, I had always assumed it needed to be roofless. is that the case or not?

I see you have tree or plant density mod and rainbeau’s concrete mod. Though I’m not thrilled with it since it blows the wealth factor way out of proportion due to the high value of concrete. We should all post our mod lists too. I have a mod that exports the list to html. I’ll grab it and post. I really like how I’ve expanded my game.

I have a mod called modlist that exports your active mods in order in html to your Rimworld directory. It’s really nice.

Some of these mods aren’t balanced in their initial state so I’ve been manually editing them to bring them in line with vanilla.

There’s mod for that! I’m not at my gaming PC right now but I know I have it installed. I’m way too OCD to allow all those random zaps to destroy my settlement!

Cool, I was going to ask if there is any fishing last night, and I see you have a mod for it. I’m surprised it isn’t part of the base game considering all the other stuff that is there.

I protect all my Geo with stone or better and never had an issue myself. The last version I played is to version back though. I don’t think that’s changed.

You can box them in with a roof, but the room gets insanely hot and the meep will collapse the second they enter.

That being said, I have used the geo plants to heat a base before.

Rainbeu’s fishing is the 2nd of 3 mods I’m trying for fishing. His adds traps as well which kinda makes the game easier. But if you want to make sushi and escargot that ones for you! The first one I tried was “Thanks for all the fish” and is far my favorite because it is very basic, has nice graphics, and allows you to configure it in options.

The third I will try when it’s updated is fishing industry when I don’t care about balance as much as you can do aquaculture.

It would be cool if you could trap enemies in there LOL.

If I had to boil down the most essential mods from that list, which I think everyone should use they would be (in order):

  • HugsLib (so many mods depend on it)
  • JecTools (same as above, Star Wars, LotR, Medieval, RimHorror, Cthulu all need it)
  • Mod Manager (save and swap mods super easy - can even autoload if you forgot what you use in a game)
  • The music ones as they add a lot and blend seamlessly
  • A Dog Said so you can do more with animals.
  • I would not suggest the animal mods because they’re all poorly balanced. I’m going through and making them vanilla compliant).
  • Alpha animals when you want a good challenge is AMAZING. I mean there are surprise events that are just so cool.
  • Mining Helmet - this is so cool! (might hurt your fps a little when they move since it lights up as they run around)
  • Coffee and Tea are fantastic, but again balance is way out of whack. When I get it dialed in it will be good. Check out what it does at the link.
  • Snowy trees - beautiful!
  • Permafrost - must have.
  • Gems - fun as it’s more than just jade - and mostly balanced.
  • Meteors - needed added event type
  • Map Reroll - if you feel cheaty
  • Allow Tool
  • Defensive Positions
  • Follow Me
  • Area Unlocker
  • Bullet Casings
  • Animals Logic
  • Priority Clean

I wonder if you could setup some sort of narrow exterior wall… when the raiders sapped their way in perhaps it would remain hot enough that they would collapse?

One thing that’s been hilarious in my new game is when sappers arrive to raid. Several times when I thought I’d killed them all, a few days later I find new dead bodies. They look fine, so what’s up? Look at their health - they froze to death. I’m in a super cold map and they didn’t come dressed for the climate!

The Expanded Prosthetics mod I mentioned didn’t get fixed, but I managed to save Clay, the colonist whose legs were mysteriously sheared off after that update. He still has a bionic arm attached to his waist, but seems perfectly healthy regardless. Appears the update relocated any and all prosthetics to different body locations. Another colonist’s asthma had moved from her lungs to her ears, and I fixed that with a pair of bionic ears.

Does it allow prosthetics for animals? Maybe I could have saved that poor blind 3 legged boomrat.

My first four colonists paired off and got married within the first year. The couple of people to join next were both women. One of the men among the original crashlanders was pretty, and the women kept hitting on him despite the fact he was happily married. This could only cause trouble down the line, so as the benevolent gaia like planetary intelligence that inhabits this particular rimworld and influences the actions of the simple surface inhabitants in order to hopefully help them grow and prosper, my mission was obvious. I need to get these women some men.

Last winter an opportunity arose.

While that is a lot of pirates, I don’t see the word “grenadier” in there. Also I have noticed that these pirates usually appear from the north, which is where their settlement lies. That plays best into my defenses. I take the risk and offer safety.

Streaking into my territory arrives Adrian.

Not the best stats, but a fast learner with no negative traits is always welcome. Whatever those despicable pirates did to him has left him with a partly crippled left arm that causes him a lot of pain. Something that will be shortly revenged upon those that are following him, and later fixed with technology.

His chasers approach as the faithful citizens of Pandale move into their positions. As the reconnaissance that Adrian provided in his desperate plea over the radio had indicated, some of these guys are armored up. At least two of them are wearing space marine armor and one of them is carrying a triple rocket launcher. Fortunately as hoped they have come down the road from the north and are following along my walls to the ponds of doom.

Everything from the start of those small passages through the rocks at the northeast corner of the walls, down to where the wall comes close to the first pond, is set with wooden spike traps. The guys with the heavy gear aren’t slowed down much by the wooden spikes, but they take their toll on the rank and file. As the enemy round the corner my guys get one shot in and dive back through the doors. Their goal isn’t to exchange fire, but to distract the enemy and get them moving towards cover and into more traps.

A few have been taken down and several are wounded as my defenders move up to the bridge after taking their pot shots. I’m a little slow getting pope moving back and the guy with the rocket launcher gets into range. Fortunately he doesn’t get a shot off before she’s safe through the door.

It was right at this point the guns were flicked on. I have two colonists that are conscientious objectors and refuse to fight. However they have no problem flicking the switch that turns on all the guns in the killing zone. If the colony ever becomes successful enough that we can afford to have someone ponder the ethical implications of the actions taken in these early years this will certainly become a subject, but in the current struggle for survival nobody talks about it.

In moments the remaining pirates are routed.

While the people who walk upon my this small portions of my face rejoice at their victory, my purpose in bringing these beings together is not forgotten. I have brought Adrian here for a reason.

Upon their initial meeting Adrian and Tamara do not get along. They quickly become rivals. Adrian and Erika initially seem indifferent to each other, but them being around the same age (biologically at least) with time I believe they can make a match.

I go out of my way to influence their behaviors so they end up spending time together. Synchronizing their schedules so they take similar time for meals and recreation. I make sure they often work close by to each other. As Adrian is a fast learner there’s benefit in sending him to do jobs for which he has little skill. Erika never wonders why it seems that whenever she goes to harvest, Adrian is nearby reaping crops despite him being unsuited for such work. Or when she is in the lab researching Adrian seems to pick those times and that room to practice building furniture.

After months, my plans have paid off.
