RIP D.A.Pennebaker

Major talent and a great loss to the film world. Even if you’re not a Dylan fan, Don’t Look Back is an incredible experience - essentially 2 hours of Bobby being an asshole.

Wow. Didn’t know he was that old.

Don’t Look Back is obviously brilliant, but his other films of Otis and Jimi and Bowie (and even later when he was working with Depeche Mode a lot) is equally great. His influence on how music is shot on film is pretty much universal.

And then plus, of course, documentaries like The War Room and Startup. If you can find it streaming, definitely check out “Original Cast Album: Company”, which a terrific short verite-style doc going behind the scenes of a Sondheim musical’s recording in production.

RIP.
