Cmon, dude. Have you never met a 12-year-old? You think kids with no cash for CDs but full broadband access are going to thumb their nose at YouTube over sound quality?
Here’s a “video” of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” that’s just an audio track – 5.5 million views. These types of videos consistently do huge traffic on YouTube, on the scale of BILLIONS of views. It’s impossible to look at that traffic and not realize that the site is often used as a radio station.
I guess. I just don’t know any twelve year olds who have internet who don’t fully dominate conventional piracy means for their needs. I also don’t regard them as viable targets for a long term strategy based around generating profits for record labels. Youtube videos aren’t going to stop them from nagging their parents for what they want.
Perhaps if there were more examples of massively youtubed, commercially available tracks that weren’t also huge successes for the artists.

Well yeah, because videos of songs seem immune to the insta-takedown that posting MP3 (or just flash, I guess) audio has historically always caused.
I always wondered about that. Why does stuff like muxtape get crushed and youtube survive when you can use youtube in EXACTLY the same way as muxtape?
Hmm.

Not so much payola as Google can afford expensive lawyers and Muxtape can’t.
Just so’s y’all know, the Wii Rock Band 2 DLC store is now up!
SWEEEEEEEET
Looking at the list of songs they’ve put on the Wii’s Rock Band store so far, they’ve put a lot of songs that were a part of “packs” on the 360/PS3 that made them collectively cheaper. I’m guessing this means that the Wii version will not have packs and albums after all, but sell only individual songs, just like with the latest Guitar Hero.
Was catching up on RB2 downloads last night. Some of the new Lenny Kravitz and (the previous week’s) Orbison tracks are ok (but not great).
We totally LOVED playing two different tracks from December, though: (1) Gunpowder and Lead by Miranda Lambert (2) Hay Poco Rock 'n Roll by Platero y Tu. Challenging in places without being obscene (I’m looking at you death metal). Great basic rock, rhythm and blues tracks!

Hay Poco is in my top 20 Rock Band tracks so far.
Unfamiliar with the song, I had to do a search.

Old Gregg on guitar!
That’s a cool song - I need to pick it up. Thanks.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by Gunpowder & Lead. To me, it doesn’t even sound like country (not even the overproduced quasi-rock that passes for country these days), but more like honest southern rock. No idea who the guitarist is (probably a session musician, honestly), but he’s pretty damn good and that solo reminds me of Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Any word on next week? I haven’t had to spend any money since December. This is unacceptable.

Screw Rob Zombie, give me both White Zombie albums instead.
But if we can’t have both, at least give us Sexorcisto. That’s one of the best heavy albums of all time.

Can anyone find a link for that Ghost Hounds “Wind Me Up” song? WTF?
That reminds me how awesome the metal stuff on the Guitar Hero 1 track list was. Thunder Kiss 65. Cowboys From Hell. Bark at the Moon. Unsung. Symphony of Destruction. These songs need to be in Rock Band!

How random that they’re throwing a Belly song into the mix - great one though, should be fun for the girls to sing…
