I’m glad they are doing all this classic rock, and not just because I tend to like this type of music. I really prefer the complex single note charts to the long strings of power chords. Gameplay wise I think it is more fun. I’m not that great at this game yet and I just switched to expert pretty recently, but good god is Alabame Getaway a ton of fun at that speed.
I agree completely. I still love playing Gimme Shelter. The beats, vocals, guitar (for my wife) are all a lot of fun on these classic rock songs. I’m a big fan of metal (I have Hard Attack…sorry, Liquid Metal as one of my most used presets on Sirius), but I don’t like playing it in these games. It’s too fast, too intricate, and often badly charted. It’s just not that fun. I actually play guitar IRL, and I enjoy playing metal that way. But in these games, I just don’t like it much.
Somehow Sin Wagon gets played every damn week at a Rock Band bar even thing up here in New York City. I don’t know any country fans, including the people who play it, but they just say it’s so fun to play they can’t stop.

I thought Sin Wagon sounded more like Bluegrass than C&W, but I admit, I don’t know much about The Dixie Chicks’ music. The local Bluegrass shows I’ve been too are AWESOME, but I just can’t get too into Bluegrass if it’s not live. They always have a lot of kick azz banjo and mandolin solos in live shows. :)

Gimme Shelter is the song I always start out with when I’m just playing around on drums. Just fun to play…
Yep. And it’s not hard at all. It’s just a lot of fun on drums. It’s one of those songs (like More than a Feeling, which also isn’t incredibly hard or anything) that just makes you feel like a real drummer. The fills are all awesome and fit the song. You never feel like you are distracting your bandmates. And it’s just a plain fun beat.
Just got through the new Dead dlc and it’s pretty good. Ironically Hell in a Bucket is probably the best RB party track as it is up tempo and has a fun note chart. Doing that Rag is my personal fave though, It’s a great song and has a really fun note chart. Don’t Ease Me In rounds out the top three for me in terms of RB fun. Uncle Johns Band is a really nice tune, but the note chart is a bit bland. I bet it would be good for beginners though, as it is a really nice melodic song that is not too hard to play. Fire on the Mountain wins the huge missed opportunity award for me. The Mars Hotel version is just pathetically flat when compared to a live version of that song. Live Fire is actually so complex a song I be that this would have been a great opportunity for Harmonix to find a really intracate version and give us something that might even test a guy like sluggo in terms of challenge. Instead we get a pretty ho-hum chart here. I think that Cold Rain and Snow is the stinker of the group, in concert this song has made me cry, but this version is all wrong and dull to play as well.
Bare in mind these thoughts are from an admitted Dead head, but I’m sure that we’ll play all of them on friday at the weekly RB party, which is a mixed crowd in terms of musical taste. If anything stands out as really fun in the party scenario I’ll let you know.
All in all I don’t think that these track are laid out as well as the original Dead track pack, and I wouldn’t really recommend them to someone who has no real interest in the music itself.

I have to get around to grabbing this. Nice review. Big Dead fan. I’d gladly swap Cold Rain for a Deal, Bertha or even a Jack Straw.

Thin Lizzy three pack and more.
Thin Lizzy - Boys Are Back In Town (Live)
Thin Lizzy - Cowboy Song (Live)
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak (Live)
The Pretenders - Precious
Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Nikko - Break My Heart
Nikko - Don’t Tell Me
Man, it’s been a bad stretch for me regarding song downloads. Blech.
Boys are Back in Town is going to be a huge hit at parties. Probably Pat Benatar too, actually.
Thin Lizzy is a band that I forget I hate until someone mentions them…or BABIT comes on the radio.
I like Benatar, but I would have preferred the Warrior. Still, something for my wife to sing. Pretenders are cool too.
Edit: Oops, that’s Scandal. Still…

FRIGGIN SWEET!
WTF is “nikko”? This has something to do with Nickolodeon? God, this is the downside of the MTV arrangement, all the crappy tweeny music.
GIVE ME THE SMITHS ALREADY.
Benatar’s welcome, but I’d have preferred “Shadows of the Night,” or even “Love is a Battlefield.”
I’m officially on DLC strike. Until Texas Flood comes out AND/OR HMX tells me personally what the fuckin’ holdup is.
Oooh. I can’t believe I forgot about Shadows of the Night. That’s my favorite Benatar song, and I actually used to play it in a cover band. That would be an excellent choice.

It’s Midnight Son. Meaningless dramatic gestures are his second favourite thing.
