The link to your daughter’s kindergarten class is much more fun, IMHO, than any potential Shaking Through.

Yes. I think Losing My Religion is one of their best songs, but I’m not particularly stoked to have it in the game. Orange Crush turned out to be more boring than I ever would have imagined.

Of course, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the R.E.M. tracks are from the Warner Bros. albums. Who owns the rights to the IRS albums these days?

Jesus, I need to remember to stay the fuck out of music threads. People get touchy. I was mostly joking about Smashing Pumpkins and Creep. But in my opinion, “it doesn’t rock hard enough” is a pretty nonsensical complaint to leverage against a song regarding its inclusion in Rock Band. Does a given Coldplay song really “rock less” than, say, Weezer’s Dreamin’, Buffett’s Volcano, or Miranda Cosgrove’s Headphones On?

REM must be the dullest fucking band in history. I managed to more or less forget they ever existed up until I bought Rock Band and after playing it once I’ve never loathed a song in one of these games as much as I loathed Orange Crush

I will state for the record that every time a song as un-rocking as the ones you mentioned is released, I die a little inside.

And as long as we’re doing the “this song would be awesome in Rock Band” thing, these two Mars Volta songs must be included someday.

Needs more Styx!

Oh, come on. So Whatcha Want? Cool for Cats? Visions?

I had the opposite reaction to Orange Crush. None of my group of friends had heard the song before, including me, and we all loved it, and all got excited every time it came up in a playlist. Losing My Religion, of course, I have heard of, it’s the song that introduced me to REM.

I know I’m late on this, but I just downloaded and played the Stevie Ray Vaughn album last night, and it’s simply amazing. The note charts are a work of art. I really need to buy this on CD too.

Agreed!

Same here. It’s one of my preferred warmup tracks, even with RB2 and tons of dlc. I even tried to listen to REM outside of the game as a result, which was a mistake.

That’s me, baby.

There was one song they TRIED to rock on, and it just didn’t work. At all.

Now this isn’t to say you can’t like Coldplay, but they don’t fit the style whatsoever for rock band. It’s a rather listless passionless sound and it doesn’t fit rock band, particularly for lack of basic rock mechanics. It’d be like including Mogwai, this isn’t Post-Rock Band or Soft-Rock Band. It’s Rock Band, damn it.

Man, people get SO angry when you say their band doesn’t fit RB. I fucking love Puffy AmiYumi. I admit it. They god damn well don’t belong in Rock Band. A lot of Bowie’s work doesn’t fit either, as brilliant as it is. I don’t expect and Jewel or John Mayer either(not to imply I like the latter, but he’s a great example).

You are probably right about Coldplay not ‘rockin out’ enough, but I am still surprised it’s not in the DLC catolog given the wide user base for the game and Coldplay’s popuarity. After all there is stuff like Oasis and Radio Head on there which I would argue doesn’t exactly ‘rock out’. Plus there is stuff like the Dead, which I love, but I would argue doesn’t have that much widespread appeal.

Oasis and Radiohead aren’t exactly hard stuff, but their styles do fit the game quite well usually. Strong instrumental, particularly guitar, and even the lighter stuff tends to push at you.

It’s not an issue of not rocking out to me, it’s that Coldplay doesn’t fit the game. It would be like playing 5 minutes of intro, the songs are just too even and never take off. Even the songs that are enjoyable, and there are a few certainly, just don’t really work for the game. I think a big part of it is the heavy bent toward piano, and the overall low key nature of it all. It’s too ambient.

Also I want to punch Chris Martin in the face. Alright? I do. I really do.

Couldn’t agree more. Well, I could, but it might cause a hernia.

You know which game DOES have Coldplay? Guitar Hero: World Tour. NUFF SAID

Well, the existence of Rock Band content that objectively does not rock is not a positive argument for the inclusion of more not-rock, it’s just proof that it isn’t necessarily impossible for it to show up.

I do agree that Creep fails to rock pretty thoroughly, but despite not being a big Radiohead fan I did buy the DLC of My Iron Lung because it rocks an uncharacteristic amount for the band (skip to around 3:00 to get past the whining) and has one of my favorite guitar solos in the whole game.

And really, I’m not objecting to Coldplay’s right to be DLC, I was just enraged to see them compared to Smashing Pumpkins. They’re not even one of my favorite bands, but they have a varied catalog, including some pretty heavy stuff, and a selection of excellent songs available for the game that show off some of that versatility.

Agreed, apples and oranges.

I actually agree with everone that from an artistic standpoint Coldplay would not fit that well in RB. But I’m a bit surprised it’s not there since I think it would be a commercial success. I suppose this is why it can be found in GH.

I’m not a big enough Stevie Ray Vaughn fan to buy the whole album, but I picked up the song Texas Flood. Fantastic song on guitar. I don’t know what it’s like on the other instruments, and I don’t really care if I never find out.

I’ve bought songs and then before they’ve downlaoded, hopped out and bought more songs. I now don’t know what I’ve bought, and got down, and what I’ve bought and not got down. This is annoying and from within Rockband the market place doesn’t seem to queue?

But I love “more than a feeling” and “message in a bottle”, two great tracks on hard! They push me but don’t kill and have great riffs. Much prefer to GH3’s approach to hard which is heaps more speed and heaps more buttons. Annoying.

Message in a Bottle is still my favorite song to drum out of the 250 or so I have.
