Tsk tsk…SOMEbody wasn’t in high school in the nineties. It’s pretty much the only thing Alien Ant Farm ever did that was memorable. It’s a very faithful cover of the original, mostly memorable for the video, which did some funny things. I remember it making the rounds on MTV for a while and everybody in my class thinking it was cool.

It’s their cover. Lots of fun.

My inner Beavis and Butthead are very excited about the Prong news.

That’s a fantastic lineup for this week. IMy only complaint with the albums is that it means little variety the week the album comes out, but this seems like they’re trying to make up for that.

Sweet. I do remember hearing the Smooth Criminal cover a lot on the radio during the 90s, and I didn’t know who that was by. Excellent!

“Naked Eye” and “Smooth Criminal” are absolute no-doubt purchases for me. I remember enjoying “Take Me Out” in Guitar Hero, despite not loving the song, so that’s a possibility. I’ll YouTube the rest to see what’s what.

I haven’t had much luck checking songs on Youtube the last couple of months. It seems like the original videos for most songs seem to be gone. Now it’s usually only some crappy live version of a song that’s up on Youtube (and sometimes an awesome live version of the song too). But it definitely isn’t as useful a tool as it used to be. And as a result, I also buy less Rock Band tracks too.

I had good luck watching George Michael videos on YouTube last night after hearing Seether’s rendition of “Careless Whisper” and having a strong desire to hear the original along with other greats like “Too Funky” and “Faith”. Yeah, I like George Michael. I said it!

The AAF Smooth Criminal cover didn’t come out until 2001. I think there was a demo version of the song that existed before their first major label album came out, but I doubt that was being played on the radio.

I still think thisis the best thing Alien Ant Farm ever did, both the song and the video.

Really? My memory IS going in my old age. I could have sworn that was '98. I must be confusing Jake thinking that was the shit with somebody from high school thinking the same thing. My whoops.

But do you like Wham?

I watched the “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” video and, as always, liked the song. But I can’t say I know any other Wham! tracks.

Awesome, more Franz Ferdinand! I loved playing ‘Take Me Out’ in the original GH.

I didn’t know Wham had other tracks. ;) I kinda wish Rock Band had more cheesy 80’s music like this. How funny would it be to get up and sing some Wham at rock band night?

I’d be up for it. Too bad the main melody in “Wake Me Up” sounds like an organ. A lot of good songs can’t be in Rock Band/GH because the main instrument is not a guitar/bass, which bums me out.

Ahm afraid we gonna hafta have you hand in your Balzac.

Fine. But you can’t have my Balzac Brat.

I’ve never heard Lucid Dreams (new album stuff), but always found Do You Want To kind of irritating b/c of chorus. My guess would be no, but at least the newer song sounds kind of promising…they’re all linked to here.

Take Me Out on RB has singlehandedly halved my interest in GH:Smash Hits. And the rest of this DLC is great as well. And I’m really enjoying my Chinese Democracy selections, so all in all Harmonix is on a roll for me.

While Movies is probable their best song, the coolest thing AAF ever did was take the Beatles’ shtick of playing unannounced on a rooftop way too far and crashed the BET Awards to shoot their video for These Days.

AAF has always really interested me; they’ve had some crazy things happen to them. Movies was actually the first single from their debut album and got hardly nay play time. Then someone heard Smooth Criminal, realized they had a hit on their hands, and all of a sudden AAF was huge. They actually rereleased Movies with the same video as a “new” single after that and it went on to be a hit.

I had never heard about the These Days video, though I know the song. The video is pretty great, though.

An expensive week for me, everything except Prong and the Allman Brothers is a must buy, and I may end up buying the others after seeing the charts.
