More Disturbed is always nice, but I’m most excited for “Ring of Fire.” I’ve been wanting Johnny Cash in the game for months, so if I can’t have it, this is just about as good, since Social Distortion’s cover is fantastic. I’ll definitely be belting that one out at Rock Band Night at the bar the following Sunday.
As for the rest, I’ll pick up the Steely Dan songs if the guitar parts are anything like Bodhisattva. I’m always looking for difficult guitar parts that aren’t metal. (As much as I like metal.) Costello and The Replacements will be the two I won’t buy.
Sigh
Will they never bring BTO’s “Takin’ Care of Business” to Rock Band? I guess too many people now associate it with Office Max ads or whatever.
Yay! More Social D. No comment on Steely Dan. Just…no comment.

Hey, at least this time I don’t have to play it, unlike certain OTHER Steely Dan songs…
I’m cautiously optimistic about Radio Radio; it’s an excellent song, but I’m not sure how it will play. Of course, what I’m really praying for is Armed Forces as album DLC.

another grrrrrrrrrrreat week. Harmonix, I’ve fallen in love with you all over again.
they say you better listen to the voice of reason
but they don’t give you any choice because they think that it’s treason
I’m pretty meh on this week. Social Distortion is pretty bland, and I seem to recall getting bored before Story of my Life is over. It’s not a bad song, it’s just long and repetetive. But like Franz Ferdinand last week, I’m tempted just because it’s a GH song.

I realize that Steely Dan has been VERY hit or miss, in that it’s sort of ambiguous whether or not any given Steely Dan song is really rock or jazz or whatever … or even fun to play.
For example, just with the bundled game tracks:
DLC for GH:WT
Black Friday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udA9swWHZlw
Kid Charlemagne http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQks3jprLnU
Bodhisattva (kind of a fucked up chart, IMO) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avSxEa8CQwc

Yeah, an album release of Elvis Costello would be amazing. I’d prefer a greatest hits type release, ala the No Doubt, but anything at all would be outstanding.
I wish there was news on the album front…
Given the option personally I would love to see My Aim Is True or maybe Blood and Chocolate (ok maybe a weird choice, but I’d love to play Uncomplicated), though I’d take whatever they could throw our way.
I just downloaded Blue Sky by accident (meant to get Blue Collar Man) after hearing all this stuff about how much it sucks on drums. I actually thought it was pretty fun. What’s so bad about it? I got a little tired by the end of the guitar solo, but it’s not anywhere near as bad as Ramblin’ Man or Let There Be Rock. The patterns are almost repetitive, but there are enough little variations all throughout that it never really gets boring.
Yay! Johnny Cash!
Is there really any reason to bother going back to the GH franchise? I was tempted by the instruments (no RB2 here yet) but now I’m thinking I’m happy with my guitars and I don’t plan on putting much effort into GHWT when so many songs are on RB.
GH: Metallica is really the only thing from that franchise worth owning.
That’s some ridunkulous overcharting in My Old School. Still fun though.

This is my one lament. I LOVE Metallica but I only have a few songs of theirs in RB2. Bah! Probably just as well because they’re hard as fuck.
I might pick up the Steely Dan songs. If they’d been anything off Aja, I would’ve definitely bought 'em.

Those of you who mocked the Steely Dan, you’ll be surprised (or not) to learn that those songs are the pick of the litter this week, on guitar at least. Both fun as hell, really great note charts.
Social D is a bit of a letdown, just semi-repetitive fast strum chordfests. But I guess we knew that from “Story of My Life” in GH2 which was fun enough in small doses, but at least one full minute too long.
The Disturbed tracks are about as good as Nu-Metal gets, which isn’t saying much, but I enjoyed them.

also, that Disturbed song, “Stricken” is a case study in GH3’s massive overcharting. Compare the note chart in GH3…

What it really is is an excellent example of how effective a grasp Harmonix has on what players think is an appropriate level of undercharting. There are plenty of examples of Neversoft putting in three note chords where it’s really a single note, but this isn’t one of them, as far as I can tell.
