Coheed tracks are fantastic! Highly recommended.

(btw, C&C is another band I didn’t know at all before playing Rock Band, so thanks for that, Harmonix.)

I thought that TV on the Radio track would be a great tune, but the charting is … uh… strummerific. Remember that one extra-giga-strummy section of the Creep in RB1? Well, imagine a whole song of that.

Wilson is pretty sweet. Even though it’s from A Live One, it’s a prettty concise song. You won’t find the excessive musical meanderings here, which I think is probably a good choice for Rock Band. At the same time the track still rips and some of Trey’s sick guitar work is charted great.

Probably the worst guitar chart in Rock Band.

I agree that the Coheed and Phish tracks are worth getting though.

Yeah. that’s a rough one.

I’m going to nominate Linger for worst drum chart. I love the song, but just 3 minutes of 1/16th notes, not fun. It’s one I’d blacklist for playing drums alone, definitely. God, why can’t we blacklist yet Harmonix? At least put it in RB3. Please.

Then I can also block “A Jagged Gorgeous Winter”, god damn that song sucks as I just discovered on my first and only intentional play. Way too indie for my fun. And probably all of Bang Camero. No offense, devs in the band, but I just don’t feel it. Seems like a perfect case of a band thinking they’re way better than they are. Especially the vocalist.

God, I hate Jagged Gorgeous Winter, I had to come back and type more. It’s like someone was flipping through their jr high angst notebook, found two incomplete poems, put them together, and added music.

Did you just say the vocalist for Bang Camero thinks he’s way better than he is? Heh. That’s pretty funny.

I should say especially the vocals, I suppose, what with the tremendous amount of chorus, but whoever it is taking the lead for the most part. I know they have more vocalists than slipknot has…well, everything.

I’m apparently in the minority given how many games and such have their music, but it feels like listening to my friend’s high school band all over again. Kinda reminds me of Wolfmother that way, I just don’t get it, but I see the appeal, so good on 'em for making it so big.

(Yes, I edited this for totally fucking up that last sentence)

Got Zombies and Wilson the last two weeks.

Now the issue: How many of the Iron Maiden tracks will be fun to play for mere mortals? I’m now playing 75% on Expert guitar but I know I’ll be dropping back to hard for these muthas.

Sadface and urgh.

Harmonix creative director Josh Randall has revealed that downloadable content for The Beatles: Rock Band will not be available for other Rock Band games or vice versa.

Oh I don’t know. I am no Rock Band savant but I can normally play through the Maiden songs on expert. Not well, mind you but I can get through them. I can see myself playing them on expert at home and on hard at parties to account for the booze fingers.

I dunno, it’s kind of understandable. Certainly it doesn’t make a lot of sense to use non-Beatles content in the Beatles game (though it would be funny to see the Beatles cover Metallica). The other way around–playing Beatles songs in RB–would be more desirable, but I’ll bet the terms of their license prohibits it.

Unfortunately, as much as I like The Beatles, if I’m at a party and it’s a choice between playing <--------------------------> that many songs and playing <------> this many Beatles songs that probably require some amount of vocal talent, I know which one is going to win. They’ll still get my money for Beatles Rock Band and the fact that I’ve pretty much stopped doing Rock Band 2 so that I can do other games means that this probably won’t effect me, but it’s still a disappointment for people who liked having all their music operating on a single software platform.

Aye, I mean RB has always had a high price point, but they’ve managed to offset that in the past with the compatibility. I may still get it, but I certainly don’t feel like I’m getting quite as much value for my money now.

I have a feeling you’ll be seeing a lot of Beatles games being sold used in GameStop. People will play through it once or twice, get their fill then move back to their larger music collection in Rock Band with new DLC every week. That’s my plan anyways.

Aren’t they doing Beatles DLC as well? I’m sure that’s the long term hook.

They’re doing Album DLC, one of which will be available at launch, but consider that there’s only 13 albums. Well, 12 and a half. You can’t count the score to Yellow Submarine. Throw in the two Past Masters discs and you’re up to 15, but, I mean, seriously. I don’t know how much of a long term hook that will really be for people who don’t eat crushed up Beatles CDs on their food as garnish.

Most Beatles songs are under 3 minutes. So, 45 songs equals two and a quarter hours of gameplay. Much as I like the Beatles, this looks like a used purchase for me.

???

The songs got longer as the band got older, and, you know, not as many. My guess is that the average of the song length for the game will be over three minutes and under four, if that’s what you’re concerned about. And may God have mercy on your soul if they include Hey Jude.

After going to Wikipedia and checking each album, I stand by my statements.

The following albums had NO songs over 3 minutes: Please Please Me, A Hard Day’s Night, Beatles for Sale.

The following had only ONE song over 3 minutes: With The Beatles, Help!, Rubber Soul and Revolver.

Sgt. Pepper started their “long” period.

My belief is only 45 songs makes for a really short game and we will be gouged on DLC. I’m pretty disillusioned right about now.

The quote up there implies the Beatles DLC won’t be playable on the other RB platforms - unless I’m misunderstanding that, that would encompass the Abbey Road DLC and any other Beatles ones.

It’s a Beatles platform.
