Come on, of all the bands… Green Day ?
Since Armstrong didn’t actually finish his sentence when he said it, but cut himself off because he knew he’d said too much, I’m guessing it’s just more DLC. He could have been saying “a whole Green Day Rock Band download,” or “DLC release,” or whatever.
Of course, at the other end of the spectrum, he could have also been saying, “a whole Green Day Rock-Band-dedicated console system that will only play Green Day songs.”
I’m guessing the former. Which I will download. “Dookie” was the first album I ever bought.
Come on, of all the bands… Green Day ?
Green Day have a ton of songs that I’d love to play on plastic instruments. Hell yeah.
I think Iron Maiden is doing a brilliant job at securing their legacy as their career starts to wind down. People are buzzing about this Rock Band pack, and for a band that doesn’t always seem to get the media/radio play attention they deserve, that’s a great way to turn people on (especially a younger crowd) to their music.
I thought it was a smart idea when The Who did it, but IM has really taken it a step further by simultaneously releasing the live album and DVD/Blu-ray.
Oh come on! There’s like 3 songs of theirs I’d like to play… (Green Day.)
Also, the Maiden songs I got were awesome! (Got half of them.) Got through them easily on hard. Expert… well, I got through them easily on hard!

I really hope it’s DLC and not a “game” like AC/DC, because I like a few Green Day songs but not enough to import the whole shebang into my library. Really, I hope the lackluster sales of the AC/DC pack has convinced Harmonix not to go that route again, because AC/DC is one of the few bands I would’ve bought.

Yeah, I failed out of Expert on 2 Minutes to Midnight, which was supposed to be my warm-up song. Hopefully that’s just because I’m sick and my coordination is off. Played the others on Hard and had a good time.
Green Day’s songs mostly just follow a pretty simple pop punk formula. There are only so many ways to represent power chords in the game. I would easily buy a 10-12 song DLC greatest hits thing, but no way am I going to shell out $30+ for an entire game’s worth of Green Day material.

For anyone interested in watching some fun Maiden ownage or just seeing the charts, I posted full-band Expert HD videos of The Trooper, Number of the Beast, Powerslave and Can I Play With Madness.
These guys are ridiculously good, and we gold-starred the entire pack, often before we got to the solos. Sooooooo much fun. :)

Not having tried expert … um, are those videos sped up? Because I can’t see how that’s possibly playable!

That’s hyperspeed mode. The notes come faster but for fast notes it’s easier to see the pattern because it’s more spread out. It takes some getting used to, and I don’t bother with it because I’ve determined that the problem is my fingers, not my eyes.

It’s funny – when I was playing Guitar Hero 2 competitively, I was one of the only top-100 players who wouldn’t use hyperspeed. All the l33test players swore by it, but I had trouble using it. That turned out to be an advantage in tourneys, because they’d always disable hyperspeed if someone requested it, and slowing it down drove the hyperspeed players nuts.
But by the time GH3 came out, I bumped up to Hyperspeed 1, then 2, and found I was getting better and better at deciphering dense solo patterns. When GH Metallica came out, I mostly used Hyperspeed 3 and 4, and I can’t play Rock Band without Breakneck Speed on any more. I look at old videos of me playing GH1 and 2 and wonder how the hell I ever played those songs with the charts scrolling so slow with all the notes scrunched together.
Although I am not nearly on your level skill wise I am the same way. I can’t play without breakneck anymore. Sometimes at parties somebody will choose easy bass without breakneck speed on and I will fail out on expert guitar in 30 seconds due the chart slowing down even more. It’s funny how your perspective changes.
“2 Minutes to Midnight” and “The Trooper” were the only two songs that I 4-starred out of the bunch. (I play Expert.) The latter I expected because of all its little ring-finger-trills-from-hell, but the difficulty of the former was a surprise.
Everything else five-starred on the sightread, but no gold stars. Sad face.
Funny, I was the opposite. Circa GH2, I started using hyperspeed during my early “Jordan” attempts, and by the time I finally beat “Jordan” on Expert I was using hyperspeed exclusively. Then with GH3, the timing window was so loose that I stopped using it so frequently, and by the time I got Rock Band, I’d stopped entirely. I haven’t played Rock Band on breakneck speed once.
I didn’t know until today, though, that Rock Band slows down the frets to the speed of the lowest difficulty level. I thought it was the opposite, so people playing on easy while I was on expert got an automatic breakneck speed mode. That probably explains why I never do as well when I play with other people.
Is The Trooper harder than the version on GH2 for 360? I remember being able to squeak through that with practice, but the way you guys are talking about it, all the Maiden DLC sounds out of my league on guitar.
I think the RB version is much easier.
You sing like an angel.
Powerslave looks pretty awesome to play with a full band. Lots of cool parts for all the instruments.

I concur with this sentiment.
Don’t get me wrong : I’m all for Green Day DLC, tons of different groups for different tastes, Green Day complete albums, track packs, what have you. There have been many bands I did not care for before in Rock Band, no problem at all.
But I would hope that there were other bands more deserving of a special edition/ Rock Band AC/DC-type deal, if it is actually the case. But that’s just me, of course if you like Green Day that woud make your day.
There may be bands more “deserving” but the question is, will they license their music?
