Since there’s no visual record, I have no idea how many songs I’ve gold starred, but I know it isn’t very many. In RB1 I used to play the same song two or three times to get that gold star; I never do that in RB2.

Also, because of the way the songs are sorted and the sheer quantity of DLC, there isn’t the same sense of the “next song” I have to beat. There’s just a bunch of songs. Usually I’ll choose Make a Setlist and then pick an easier song, a couple more difficult songs, and one of my favourites to finish up on. And that’s it for the night. I used to care about beating harder songs or pushing my scores up, but now I just play what I feel like playing. I’m not sure which is better.

I do wish there was an indication of whether I’ve beaten a song on Hard or Expert though.

Accounting for different difficulty levels in the same listing (since you don’t choose the difficulty ahead of time like GH) might be what’s stopped them from recording the star rating, actually. If you play the same song at different difficulties, which one gets recorded?

Always keep the higher difficulty score? Whoops, your pathetic two-star Expert attempt has overwritten your four-star Hard score. Only keep it if it’s a higher score? Whoops, your four-star Expert run that you’re proud of is blocked by your old five-star Medium run. It probably just wasn’t worth the hassle of figuring out a set of sensible rules.

It still annoys me, but I can see why they might not have wanted to do it.

Well, that’s what happens right now with the scores. The only difference is, we have no idea what the score means.

Every song should show your rating on whatever difficulty levels have been played for that instrument, and there’s plenty of room onscreen for those ratings to pop up from song to song.

Make a button on the controller that switches between instruments (ideally part of an overall “easy switch system” so you can naturally go from instrument to instrument without fucking around with a ton of gamertag bullshit).

Add an option in the option menu that allows you to choose between highest score overall and highest difficulty beaten overall for the master display as the songs scroll down.

Anyone got any more information on when that patch is supposed to be coming, anyway?

“Six” was and still is the bane of my GH2 existence. I had five stars on every other song in that game. I have never even earned FOUR stars on “Six.” (Although I bet if I went back now I could at least get four.)

It reminds me that I played I don’t remember which song at least 5 times to get a 100% in World Tour (I consider myself an ok player but I can’t stand the pressure of the 100% and make stupid mistakes), and there’s not even an achievement for that…

My wife just showed me a TV ad for the Iron Maiden DLC… interesting, first ad I’ve seen for non-retail DLC content!

I guess it’s tied in with promotion of the Iron Maiden “Flight 666” release, but the DLC was definitely the focus of the commercial; they showed the song select screen, Rock Band, etc quite clearly.

What song did they play during the commercial? Can I play with Madness?

I think they did it for the Who as well.

Well I’ll be damned, you’re right

No, he hums like a cheating bitch. :)

They ran these ads heavily on VH1 while airing the Flight 666 documentary, which was a decent watch if you’re into Maiden.

No, I’m singing every word. I just have the volume down because I’m doing falsetto and it sounds incredibly gay. :)

NEVER try playing The Trooper on expert guitar after a bottle of wine.

This public message brought to you by myself.

Green Day DLC was announced:

The first pack (which will contain three songs) will feature “21 Guns,” “Know Your Enemy,” and “East Jesus Nowhere” from Green Day’s latest album, 21st Century Breakdown.

Disappointing.

Yeah, I saw that. BOOOO! Fuck you, release some of the old stuff. 3 songs? Lame.

As big a Green Day fan as I am (music of my adolescence and all that), it’s a disappointing pack. I’d expected “Know Your Enemy”, but hoped it’d be alongside Brain Stew/Jaded (yep, I want it combined, just like the video), or When I Come Around. Or Warning. Or American Idiot. And Longview. There’s so much to pick from, I’m not sure why this is what they went with (well, I am, promotion, but come on guys).

The new stuff is great but they missed Peacemaker, maybe my favorite Green Day song at this point. I’m not about to get upset about the old stuff. I hope this means they are happy to go back and mine the back catalog at some point.

The last 20 seconds of Powerslave lit me up on expert drums last night.

WTF was that?!
