I believe Posehn covers it well.
Damn it, if they’re deathgrowling now, gimme some DethKlok. I’ve got a great growl, I’m ready for it man! DethAlbum DLC!
Cooooookieeeee!!!
I will eat them up!!!
I would download the cookie monster song, but not any actual death metal.

Damn. I was hoping there would be some metal-ized cover version of “C Is For Cookie” coming next week.
Although, I’m in the middle of rebuilding my home studio. Maybe I’ll make it. :)
They should totally do a Sesame Street/Muppets pack. It would do great.

I have never, ever heard of Big Dipper or The Dead Weather. Looks like Big Dipper stuff is from the late 80s?
edit:
supposedly, one of the finest lesser known indie bands of the late 80s
indie supergroup
as usual, this is indicative of a company with musical taste, unlike the collective corporate bowel movement at Neversoft/Activision that produces the DLC release list for GH:WT.

You guys should check out the skill levels on that Cannibal Corpse - Hammer Smash Face song:
Guitar: 5 devil heads
Drums: 5 devil heads
Vocals: 0 stars
Bass: 5 devil heads
Hilarious!
edit: and if you ever wonder what inspired the ‘song’ Visions, here ya go.
I’m more excited about the announcement I read out of some news feed or other that “I Want You Back” will be in Lego: Rock Band. I mean, I’m not a music head, but I like to think I know a little, and I’ve never heard of these things they have brought us.
Most of the death growl songs in the game are ridiculously hard on all instruments except really easy to sing. There are a few other songs with all tier 6 instruments and tier 0 singing.

Prequel to the Sequel
Rude Mood (Easiest singing ever! There isn’t any!)
What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
edit: Oh wait. I guess I should listen to The Dead Weather. Jack White!
I would love some more Priest, but that is not it. I’ll give a look to Eat Me Alive, but everything after Painkiller was tripe and frankly makes me feel a little embarrassed for them.

I think there’s a bit of cognitive dissonance in the way you’ve spun “music I’ve never heard of” into being “indicative of taste.” While I personally find RB far superior to GH:WT, I would like the DLC to favor more “mainstream” hits. Obscure stuff is rarely, if ever, popular in group settings.
EDIT: Actually, I’m going to reformulate my position. Obscure music is fine. It’s multiple 3-packs of obscure music in the same week that’s annoying. It’s been a while since I’ve been excited by a DLC release.

well, read this and compare the DLC content in terms of “have I heard of this band – and did I even want to?”
Can we start a moratorium on “I’ve never heard of that band wah wah wah” bullshit please? If I’ve learned anything from this thread, it’s that the apparent musical knowledge of the biggest Rock Band fans is staggeringly low, and furthermore, nobody cares if you haven’t heard of a particular band. Some of the best songs in the various music games are songs that are not generally well-known, and nearly all of the worst songs are among the most popular.
Yeah! Some of these songs are so awesome, I often think about calling up my local radio station and making requests(demands) for them.
I’m not a big time RB player so I don’t know what I’m missing, but I’d love to hear some New Kid in School, Float On or 9 in the afternoon.
I choose not to clutter up my Rock Band with stuff I’ve never heard of. This is my Classic Rock/80’s Metal platform. I can’t wait to get rid of Visions when it’s time to export to RB3. Believe!

I choose to clutter up my Rock Band with stuff I like and/or is fun to play, whether I’ve heard of it or not. When DLC is announced, I’ll investigate the stuff I don’t know, and I’ve been exposed to quite a few bands that way.
Of course, there’s plenty of stuff I don’t like, but the simple fact that we get 3/6/9 songs to choose from every week is pretty awesome, IMO.

What I’m saying is that there is a difference between
a) GH:WT’s strategy of “marketing douchebags made us include this shitty band you’ve never heard of”.
and
b) RB’s strategy of “people who love music and are generally in bands themselves included this band you’ve never heard of.”
To be fair, there are exceptions on both sided – Naked Brothers Band anyone? – but as a general rule, applied to the broad song catalog (both on disc and DLC) of both games it is absolutely freakin’ true.
