They really need to upgrade the store to include at least a video preview of the charts. And we need a better way to manage all the songs that we’ve already bought, let alone the ones in the store.

All depends on if these “freelancers” chart the songs correctly.

The freelanced charts need to have a user rating system attached so the good ones will be easy to find.
Good call EpicBoy. If we’re getting thousands of songs there needs to be some ratings and feedback available.
Control is in the copyright holder’s hands right? I mean the band/studio/label could chart the song themselves if they want to take the time and get “certified”? Do they have final say on charting done by a certified freelancer?

Agreed, EpicBoy, and chart previews.
Also, a way to beg Brendan Small to start working on DethDownload.
I’m sure that Harmonix recognizes the importance of well-charted songs and is planning some sort of tools to ensure a minimum level of quality in songs charted off-site, or however they’re planning on running this thing.
This would be even cooler if they EVER put out the Stars and Stats patch since we’re not getting RB3 this year and Beatles is non-platform.

Didn’t they have that in the video? Or was that just for the QA guys? I’m cautiously optimistic about this, but the song browser needs to be redone in a big way to accomodate it.
This reminded me. Didn’t Page say he wasn’t comfortable giving out the masters to Zep? Since the label can do it from their end now…
I think that was the community QA/approval thingie, not users who bought the finished track.

Songs available through the new store, which will remain separate from the existing “Rock Band” store, will be initially available for download to users of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game console. MTV expects to eventually make the popular tracks available for use on the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii game systems.
Wow, is the gap in RB 360 and RB PS3 sales really that dramatic? Or is Sony just dropping the ball somehow?
I’m not a hard-core console gamer, and I love blu-ray. Nevertheless, I still sometimes find myself regretting the decision to buy a PS3, and this is definitely one of those times. I’ll probably pick up a 360 during the holiday season, but I’ve bought enough DLC to be “locked in” with PS3 Rock Band.
I hope they have different sections of the store for Harmonix tracks and indie stuff. The DLC song list is already getting a bit tough to manage, if a flood of indie stuff hits it would drive me crazy.
That being said I think that this is awesome given the right interface.

The whole tool chain is the XNA Community Games channel on the 360 & is tied to C# & MS’ proprietary tools…

You know, I was always wondering how much or what Microsoft had paid MTV Games to get Rock Band 1 (in Europe) and 2 (all regions) as a timed exclusive. Because it really hurt their ability to build that brand. Especially in Europe, where Guitar Hero outsells them by a wide margin.
Now with the Rock Band Network being announced, it seems a bit clearer now. It made more sense for them to get people to buy the 360 version of the game since that would be the platform for them to do what they’re going to do now. And I guess that exclusivity agreement might have been what got them Microsoft’s permission to do that on their network in the first place, and/or also a better royalty deal for the content sold through Xbox Live.

Also, because PS3 sucks ass.
Console Warrior!!
I really hope the coming update has lots and lots of the most demanded fixes/improvements. That would be nice. Groovy, even.
