Hey, how about they put out the iconic movie soundtrack instead of yet another current release adver-tie-in Dlc? There’s been entirely too much of that going on. At least they aren’t Activision. Yet.

Yes, I know I don’t have to buy it.

Maybe they don’t have the masters for the movie soundtrack. Or maybe about a million other reason. But what do they know? They’re no Midnight Son.

Pearl Jam’s upcoming album will also be DLC, and will sell in a bundled version from the band’s new best friend, Target. I wonder how well the Best Buy DLC content version of the Ten re-release sold relative to the others, and what the numbers are like for more bands to do this within the traditional Harmonix production line as compared to the new open platform do-it-yourself approach.

Basically, I’m wondering if this sort of thing will withstand the overall slowdown in music game sales. I’d like to think that it’s a long term partnership that won’t be insanely lucrative but will be a great way for bands to work around the traditional record label model.

No expectations, no disappointment. We both live the same world, with the same DLC announcements from Harmonix, but at a guess I would say I’m happier.

Oh yeah, I’m all emo and shit. Wah!

So, which instruments are best for guitar? Some seem to prefer RB, others, GHWT. Can’t buy any of them singlely in NZ since GH3 :(

I know. It gets annoying.

I’ve been perfectly happy with my GH3 Les Paul, so I’ve never had a reason to get another guitar since.

I like both of the headliners of the current generation, the GHWT guitar and the Rock Band 2 guitar, a great deal. I’m also a big fan of the v 2.0 Les Paul that comes with the Aerosmith game, even if the software is shit by definition (in the US the whole thing is 20$, so well worth it just for the guitar). I’m not sure if I’m just a better player or if they really improved it all that much since my Les Paul 1.0 kicked the bucket a while back, but that’s my take on it.

So you really can’t go wrong. I’d say get 2 different kinds so you can experiment with what works for you. Plus that way you can generate artificial drama with picky guests.

Classic Spinal Tap = awesome.

That is all.

We need more Rolling Stones.

That is all.

Here’s the DLC that will be available next week! A little old, a little new, a few live tracks and a few tracks from a band that exists only as a cartoon! Enjoy!

Tracks available on Xbox 360 (Aug. 11) and Playstation 3 (Aug. 13):

Gorillaz “Clint Eastwood”
Gorillaz “Feel Good Inc.”
Gorillaz “Re-Hash”
Janis Joplin “Piece of My Heart”
The Band “Chest Fever (LIVE)”
Jefferson Airplane “White Rabbit”
The Who “Magic Bus (Live at Leeds)”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

These tracks will be available for purchase as part of the “Gorillaz Pack 01” or as individual tracks on Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 systems.

Sweet! A couple of classics there for sure.

After GH5 announced Gorillaz I did wonder how long it would be before RB would have them as well. Very pleased at those three, for sure.

Very nice. Are the other two Gorillaz songs as good as Feel Good Inc.? I’ll be getting the Janis Joplin song for sure (everyone knows that song), and probably The Who as well. Don’t know the others by name, though I might have heard them without knowing their names.

Definitely getting at least the first two Gorillaz songs, Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane. The rest may be purchases too, but I’d have to see their tracks on RBDLC. I’m guessing the track by The Band will at the very least have a great chart.

Rock8man, I’m sure you’ve heard “Clint Eastwood.” It was their first real hit and got tons of radio play. It’s the “I got sunshine in a bag” song.

Also, singing “Feel Good, Inc.” is going to be a bitch, since I assume you’re singing not just the really high “Feel good” parts, but also the rapid-fire rap.

“Chest Fever” is such an odd choice.

Now I’ll finally learn the lyrics to those Gorillaz songs! Seriously, I’ve been begging for Gorillaz for a while now. I expect it will be a case of “be careful what you wish for” because I can’t imagine it will actually be very interesting to play, but for some songs that doesn’t stop you from wanting them anyway. Glad to see they’re indulging us.

Well well - finally we get some Del tha Funkee Homosapien (or however he’s spelling it these days). I might have to dust off my instruments just for that.

De La Soul provides the rap on “Feel Good Inc.”

“Re-Hash” has no rap.

Well, yeah - Del was only ever in two Gorillaz tracks and one of them was Rock the House, but that other one - I’ll totally try that out.

Edit: Hold up - what are they going to put on the guitar for those Gorillaz songs? Clint Eastwood is entirely drum/keyboard/synth (with a part for bass) and I can only hear a drum, a bass, and vox for Feel Good Inc before the Damon Albarn bridge parts in the midst of the rap. Re-Hash has all the right parts, but I wonder what those other ones will look like.

Dammit. I could see myself buying every single track in that release. White Rabbit will be delicious to torture people with (I like it as a song, but it’s pretty weird, and I don’t think any of my friends know it, because they suck).
