Sounds like they want a Pink Floyd: Rock Band. Can’t say I would object!

Doh, I got excited for nothing. Seems like Pink Floyd won’t happen since they are against singles. The amount of effort to do a whole game and their lack of enthusiasm (“I think we’d consider it”) means we shouldn’t hold our breath.

I dunno - the main thrust of their message is they like albums, and considering their music, this doesn’t surprise me. If Harmonix came up with a way of playing ‘albums’ they might be on board. I think the approach they took with Beatles is pretty damn fine and could be further worked on and expanded in Floyd game.
I would not want a Floyd game instead of Rock Band 3. The only other single band game I would be interested in would be Led Zepplin.
An AC/DC style track pack of Pink Floyd stuff would be OK though.
Zepplin, the Stones…or, my all-time favorite band…The Doors. Heck, they could even add another instrument with The Doors: a keyboard.

See, what you want doesn’t matter.
I’d skip any Led Zeppelin game and buy anything Floyd in a heartbeat… I think they need a wider demographic than just the two of us stating likes and dislikes.
And people, don’t put too much stock in some throwaway quotes from Gilmour. Sure the band liked albums. But he also says that they only speak sometimes, so I don’t think it’s something they’ve settled on.
Seeing Roger Waters live or years ago the other members, surely shows that they’re not adverse to performing greatest hits on stage. So I’m sure the right offer from Harmonix would convince them (espicially if that game was a standalone thing like Beatles)
And I’d love to see them handle some sort of album-centric game (Hell, give Gerald Scarfe a cool deal and let me play to his Wall animations).
Not that I think Harmonix/EA is considering a Pink Floyd game.
I realize what I want doesn’t matter in the slightest. Thanks.
Just to clarify. If they did a full Pink Floyd (or any band) game in addition to Rock Band 3 that would be fine with me. I just don’t want them to back burner RB3 like they did in order to give the Beatles’ game it’s own space.

Pink Floyd is not the Beatles, or even close. An AC/DC-style track pack would be okay, but hopefully they’ll just release some DLC. As a consumer, I don’t like anything that puts limits on how I play the game. That includes all-or-nothing song exports, but a completely separate game is far worse.
I’m the opposite.
While I like RB2 and all the music avaliable I wouldn’t mind seeing another of my favourite bands - like Pink Floyd - get the loving attention to every detail that Harmonix gave The Beatles. In Beatles: Rock Band I don’t just listen to the music and play the notes, I notice characters and background… in RB2 I just don’t care. So I’ll deal with the disc swapping for another beutifully crafted 1-band tribute.
But only for a band I love.
And that’s the rub. Nobody would buy that unless they cared for the band and I just don’t see that many bands with the universal draw to merit that. So while I’d love to play Pink Floyd: Rock Band I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Next week’s DLC:
Backspacer full album from Pearl Jam
Meh. I buy everything and I’m not sure I want this. I got all the PJ I need at the moment.

This is kind of a failure of RB2, for me at least. When I play World Tour mode I get to play with my created characters, and I actually enjoy watching them. However, 95% of the time I play quickplay and get stuck with some random fuckos who I didn’t design and can’t dress up.
I just don’t think there are many, or any, bands besides the Beatles that have broad enough appeal to warrant the full treatment. There are a few bands that I would love a full game for, but they aren’t going to be the same bands other people pick.
They absolutely should sell band character packs and stages, though. And allow you to use them in quickplay.
Awesome. This DLC and next year’s Rock Band release might get me closer to all of the Pearl Jam I need.

I’m definitely interested in checking out the new Pearl Jam but I’m really looking forward to next year’s compilation. If I can play Corduroy, I Got Shit and Hail, Hail I’ll be a happy man.
There really is a very cohesive nature to Pink Floyd albums, I agree that if Harmonix could find a way to preserve that Floyd might be in.
Buying Floyd stuff a la carte (with some exceptions) would be like buying side two of Abbey Road a la carte…pointless.

From this past week’s DLC… Tribute is a blast to play. While some might accuse the D of being a “joke” band, that song flat out rocks.

Yeah, I wonder if B:RB has shown that “concept” plastic rock music games can really work. If they could make their production line efficient we could see a series of these and I would happily buy them all (for the bands I like). I would appreciate not having to change disks when I flipped between band music, but I don’t mind so much.
Yeah, I want to see Floyd on stage with all their crazy-massive set antics and I would love to play through the “stories” of their albums. There are probably a few other bands this could work with, although I’m not muso enough to pick any in particular.
Isn’t the common thread between all of the awesome Floyd albums, though, the fact that Roger Waters was involved, and don’t he and Gilmour kind of hate each other so hard that they could make one another’s grandparents explode through the sheer force of their enmity? I mean, you’ve got five records there (okay, four - a lot of people don’t really like The Final Cut), one of which is a double album, and they could make that work, but would that even be feasible?
A single game experience environment thing of The Wall, though - that might be interesting if they could come up with an interesting gimmick.
This has long been one of my gripes with RB2. They finally allowed you to use your own avatar in quickplay. Why not allow you to select AI fill-in characters from your stable like they do in World Tour. It’s a minor quibble, but it’s one of the things I hope to see in RB3.

Really? You mean the guy you designed in game or your XBox Live one? The XBL one would be awesome.

the one you design within the game, not your xboxLIVE avatar.
