That drum track will be kick ass.
When the F**K are we going to get “Smells Like Teen Spirit” FFS? Or did the Guitar Hero franchise buy exclusive rights to it? Sure looking that way.
If my math’s right, this will put us one song away from having more Foo Fighters in Rock Band than Van Halen in GH:VH.
The Pretender! Woo-Hoo!*
Sweet.

I’m Woo-Hooing on that one, too. It’ll be the only track I pick up this week. I’ve been waiting for it for a long time!
Awesome song.

I may pick up the Joan Jett track, if it’s not too easy, but I don’t need any more Dave Grohl.
I’m starting to picture him “accidentally bumping into” various Harmonix people around town and casually mentioning that his whole library is available, cheap. And hey, we should hang out sometime.

They can keep it. That song would be naptime in game.

Yeah, Smells like Teen Spirit is a bit underwhelming in GH5. Haven’t tried it on drums, though.
HUGE disappointment. Killer Queen was one of my favorites from the original GH, and it was the track I was looking most forward to in the pack. Then, it turns out to be a ticket to Dulls International Airport.
I wonder why the RB versions of GH and GH2 tend to have such different charts. Were they not worried about fidelity to the original song in Guitar Hero? Or did they chose fun over fidelity and have their cover musicians add in guitar lines? If so, why the change of heart?
All I know is that if they finally get around to putting Take It Off and Heart Full of Black in Rock Band and they are different to Killer Queen’s degree, then my nerdrage will have no limit.

Um, yeah, it’s because they were less concerned with fidelity. Since every song is a master track now, they can’t jazz up otherwise boring songs. They do track non-guitar instruments when appropriate, but that’s about the best they can do.

I also say “WOOO!!! PRETENDER!!!,” which I’ve been looking forward to playing on drums for a while.
So I guess I’m still not sick of the Foos in Rock Band yet.
Then Harmonix should indicate that somehow, especially on tracks that have already been released in their other games. I’d bet that most GH fans who bought this expected the charting to be roughly similar to the cover version. It’s not like a song like “More Than a Feeling” where the charting was different but comparable. This is another reason why it would be nice to have a visual preview of tracks as well as the audio.*
Furthemore, why didn’t they chart the non-guitar parts on Killer Queen like they did on Somebody to Love, or on numerous other guitar-lite tracks? What’s the criteria? While it’s a bit of a disconnect to be playing guitar and hearing piano or synth or whatever, at least it’s not boring.
*Yes, I know I can go on the Web for this from third-parties, but that’s not a very elegant system.
When GH was still doing cover songs, they added guitar lines to a few of the songs to spice them up. I don’t know for sure how many songs got the treatment, but the most noticable examples I can think of are Killer Queen and Ziggy Stardust (in which they added an entire solo to the song that was awesome, but wasn’t in the original song).
That’s the one thing that kind of sucks about using all masters. There are tons of really great songs that just don’t translate well to playing them in the game. I no longer buy songs just because I enjoy them. They have to be fun to play.
Yeah, Killer Queen and Somebody to Love were the two disappointing songs for me on Guitar in the Queen pack. The GH version of Killer Queen with the added guitar strings was definitely better, and playing piano in Somebody to Love is just weird.
I’m hoping I’ll enjoy those two songs on drums and bass though, which I still haven’t tried.

I think the Rock Band 2 version of Woman by Wolfmother turned out well compared to the Guitar Hero 2 version. There’s a pretty long organ solo that was cut out of the GH2 version that’s a little repetitive for the guitar chart in the new version, but otherwise the master track just sounds much better, and the new chart is just as good.
Somehow, I don’t think Harmonix is going to go for a “Warning: this track may be less fun that you expect” label for the re-releases.
All of the Wolfmother songs are fun on drums and guitar. On of my favorite packs released in a while.
That would be hilarious if they did. :)
There really is no way to get around this other than visual previews. Pie in the sky, I’m sure. But while the iTunes-esque audio previews and instruments ratings are helpful, they don’t really give a full indication of what playing the song will be like. Especially since what I consider three stars and what Harmonix considers three stars can vary greatly.
EDIT: Though I would still like to know their criteria for when non-guitar lines are used in tracks.

They also have a little lego symbol by each of the downloads. I assume that means that these are all Family Friendly songs and will be available in Lego Rock Band as well. I haven’t heard any of these songs, and am still making my way through Lego Rock Band. Any of these highly recommended by anyone here? As in “OMG You absolutely have to try this out” level of enthusiasm?
