I’ll second this request. That song fucking rocks.
Tom Petty = good
Live tracks = BAD

depends on the live track, though. Some are pretty good.
Seriously. American Girl and Mary Jane’s Last Dance were must buys, but I hate live tracks.
Man, I haven’t bought new Rock Band songs since…well, since Beatles RB came out.
Between Queen, Petty, and some scattered other ones, I’m going to have to drop $40 or so just to get back up to speed…

What’s the appeal of live tracks? Is there something wrong with the originals that the artist is trying to correct by releasing live versions? I would have bought every one of those Tom Petty tracks if they were the studio cuts. And I’m guessing that the odds of them later releasing the studio cuts are pretty minimal. I was also interested in the AC/DC track pack but again I don’t want a bunch of live tracks.
Generally, my understanding is that live tracks are used when the studio masters are lost or otherwise not available.

I can’t speak to the other Live tracks, but the AC/DC live tracks are just jaw-droppingly awesome. I didn’t really ever understand the appeal of AC/DC until I played those live tracks. For example, the live version of Let There Be Rock is just so full of energy and enthusiasm, it’s electric. It’s lead me to the conclusion that AC/DC are a better group live than they are in the studio.

Some of the AC/DC tracks are awesome, and others like Jailbreak are unplayable.
I’m not sure why Mary Jane would require a live track since it’s newer than Free Falling. But who knows, maybe it’ll be awesome.
There’s no telling what the live tracks are going to sound like until someone else buys them and posts videos!
Jailbreak is awesome on guitar.
Yeah, I found all the tracks to be awesome on guitar. Especially when played in order, from beginning to end as played in the concert. They have a great flow to them.
This. I’d probably pay 3x the going rate to get this music in a non live format, because live music on the rock band platform SUCKS.

That’s all well and good, but it’s boring as shit on drums (and presumably bass), and you can take a break and run errands on vocals (I’ve seen video).

I was hugely disappointed with the Thin Lizzy tracks…the version of the Cowboy Song made me sad.

In one of the Live Thin Lizzy tracks, the band falls apart for a bar or two before pulling it together. The AC/DC tracks, on the other hand, are awesome – but they’re AC/DC. I wonder if Guitar Hero has the rights to the Tom Petty album versions or he’s promoting a live album or something.
I believe these Tom Petty recordings are from the new Live Anthology coming out this week.

Well, I played two of the Petty live tracks and I give them a hearty thumbs up, because
-
they’re fun as hell on guitar (the three that made it through the crazy Lego Rock Band family filter were all red dot max difficult)
-
there’s hardly any jam band live wankery embellishment
-
they are close to the masters in sound and performance
-
Tom Petty is awesome
You may disagree, but as a guy who literally owns every single Rock Band track ever released* – as live tracks go, these are solid.
- except for the Nickelodeon crap
