Holy cats. Rust in Peace is like one of the greatest albums ever. Again though, it’ll be like playing Helmet songs for me because I learned most of RiP’s bass lines on a real instrument. Lucretia should be filled with lovely WTF moments in RB, I’m sure :)

It is a good album, yes. But I agree with wanting Symphony, and I’ll throw in In My Darkest Hour. The cover of Anarchy would be nice too, but I doubt they would do that over just using the Sex Pistols version.

Even though it’s quite a bit later, I’d love to see them get “Crush 'Em” in the game. That song never fails to get me pumped up. I listen to it before any athletic competition I’m a part of.

Hell yes. That and Almost Honest are my two favourite Megadeth songs.

I know a guy (at my old school paper) who was offered an exclusive interview with Dave Mustaine and turned it down. The metalheads in the newsroom (all two of us) never forgave him.

Played The Who’s “Halftime S-Mashup” tonight. Not bad, I imagine it’s fun if you can’t decide which Who song to play. But lacking solos even at 12 minutes long, it didn’t do much for me on guitar. It’s not The Who’s answer to “Freebird” by any means.

I’d have been happy if it had just thrown in a few more bits of Pete Townshend doing a little improvisational meedling like we had in the actual show. But there was only the briefest moment of that.

Anyone else throw down with Rust in Peace last night? I had to “Normal” all the drum parts since Megadeth is insanely difficult on Hard but I still had a blast.

I was disappointed that they can’t even use the word “shit” in Rock Band. “Take no prisoners! Take no _____” Really?

I downloaded RiP but haven’t had a chance to play it yet. From the chart vids I have seen it looks a little easier than Peace Sells on drums, but about the same on guitar.

Blame the ESRB - none of their content available in the game can outrank the game disc’s rating. Lego Rock Band shows that they can definitely sort things down to “family friendly,” so maybe Green Day or 3 or whatever will have an M rating and they can put album versions on for that one?

Somewhat related: Music games business imploding.

Red Octane shut down completely! Cuts at Neversoft, etc. Activision to go from 34 million skus to only GH6 and DJH2. And that’s how you “exploit” a genre!

Massive shutdowns and Satan Kotick just got himself $20 million in stock.

Plus there is a question of whether EA will once again make a deal with Viacom to distribute Rock Band games. Rock Band hasn’t done all that well for EA, so there is a question as to whether they want to continue. Plus, I’m guessing since EA is just the distributor, they don’t like the whole Rock Band model of sell the game, and then sell songs as DLC, since they don’t get a cut of that.

I hope there will still be Rock Band 3. I’ve got my Logitech Xbox Guitar Controller on the way… probably the last fake guitar I’ll ever buy…

I’m sure there will be a Rock Band 3. Even if EA doesn’t want to be distributor anymore, I’m sure there will be plenty of others willing to step in. Like Bethesda or Take2 or Ubisoft or someone else.

Keep hope alive! I still love my music games.

No kidding. Here I thought Kabbage Boy was just made up for the game, and yet, someone managed to find them in the greatest video example of “trying too hard” I’ve seen in years.

Wow, Otis Redding makes his way to Rock Band. It’s a good week when they get another new big name.

Otis Redding – “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” +
Otis Redding – “Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song)” +
Otis Redding – “I’m Sick Y’all” +
Otis Redding – “I’ve Got Dreams to Remember” +
Otis Redding – “Love Man”
All Time Low – “Weightless”
Alphabeat –“Fascination” +
Brian Setzer Orchestra – “Stray Cat Strut” +
The Chemical Brothers – “Let Forever Be” +

Back to business as usual, I see.

Played through Rust in Peace on guitar and drums last night. It’s definitely easier than Peace Sells on drums. I’d say about equal to the Iron Maiden stuff difficulty wise.

On guitar I was only able to make it through Lucretia and Tornado of Souls on expert. That solo at the end of Holy Wars is up there with Constant Motion and Afterlife as one of the most brutal in the game IMHO.

Otis? Sad song? MUST BUY!

It’s pretty much confirmed that EA isn’t going to make that deal. They announced some time back that they’re going to stop distributing games they don’t own a stake in, and given the bulkiness of the instruments I don’t think they’re going to make an exception for Rock Band unless Harmonix offers them up a very sweet deal.
