Who? Whut?
Green Day is pretty fun. Having Dookie in its entirety is a great thing, as is American Idiot. Plenty of other great songs on there too, but I’m pretty sure fans have already got it, and everyone else will just buy it cheap eventually.
It has a heavy amount of “Your wrist? Fuck it” in the Dookie songs, but it’s the good kind of hurt.

Yeah, at least it’s exportable. So it’s a song pack done the right way, unlike Guitar Hero: Van Halen, which was just fucking pointless without an export.
Still not sold on band-specific games unless the band is epic and genre-defining (Metallica, Beatles, Who, Stones). Music to me is so much bigger than any one band.
That’s what screwed over Beatles, combined with locked songs. Shame, Beatles is a great RB, but no export with unlocking, not gonna go for most RB fans.
This is 47 songs ready to go, and a lot I really really like. It’s also a spectacular pack for bassists. Usually the bass gets left behind in Rock Band, but being Green Day it’s prominent.
I’m surprised by just HOW iconic so many of these songs are. I expected, since the majority of the game is album cuts, that I’d be finding a lot of new material. Turns out I know most of it quite well.
Prince of Darkness pack 01:

No More Tears, bitches! Probably/hopefully has keyboard info in the track for RB3?
Damn, music games are dead!

Sheeit, I used to play that riff on my bass, back in high school. I hope it’s playable in RB, I can see it being a lot of blue-orange-green just like Freya, and I fucking hate Freya.

So how do you follow up Ozzy Osbourne on Rock Band?
err…uhm…ah…deep breath
Miley Cyrus?
“7 Things” +
“Can’t Be Tamed”
“Fly On the Wall” +
“See You Again” +
“Start All Over” +
I’m actually slightly surprised that one of the songs isn’t family friendly. But yeah, I have nothing more to add than a look of “whaaaa?”

There’s…okay, listen, there’s a Miley Song or two I’d probably play and enjoy. But Fly On The Wall? That’s, by far, the worst song I’ve heard come out of her. Why on earth choose that one guys?
There’s Miley Cyrus now? What?
Get me some Hanson or I’m leaving. Seriously.

I would have posted about Miley but, um, well, I have to keep away from any thread that mentions her.

I missed this last week, but now that I’m seeing it … what a letdown. I could probably rattle off 20 Ozzy songs that haven’t appeared in any GH / RB game to date that I’d rather see than anything in this list.

I was wondering if You had disappeared without me noticing. I am surprised you haven’t been weighing in on any of the RB3 stuff.
I was thinking the same thing. Crazy Babies isn’t bad, actually, but the others? Not fun. I like No More Tears OK, but there’s not a lot going on there musically. Still, they may be saving the real Ozzy for RB3 at this point. We know Crazy Train will be in it. I gotta believe Bark at the Moon will come down the pipe as well (PLEASE!!!). Mister Crowley would be awesome too.

I keep meaning to post about the RB3 stuff, but every time I start thinking about it, it starts forming into some bloated mega-post and I can’t figure out where to start.
Of course, I’m looking forward to RB3, especially the keyboard stuff, as I’ve played IRL for over 30 years. I think I’ll actually be better at RB keyboards than I am at plastic guitar or vocals, a thought that may terrify some of you. :)
But I don’t know what to make of the “pro” guitar stuff. I suspect the new plastic guitar is going to be too complex and alien and awkward to catch on, and I have a hard time believing I’ll be able to plug a Squire into my Xbox and have it properly track that I can, in fact, play Crazy Train note-for-note. I’m all for building something that will teach people how to play real instrutments, but if the hardware or tech are spotty, the “game” part could suffer a lot.

I’ve had that same worry. When the Harmonix guy was giving the tech demo playing The Hardest Button to Button on Pro Expert, it clearly sounded like he was playing the song fine but he wasn’t even coming close to obtaining a streak in-game, and those parts were no where near the complexity of what I imagine most other parts will be like.

But the GREAT thing about it is all the wankers who can 100% everything on Expert now have to 100% everything on the damn 100+ button guitar. Since Expert is now “medium”, they have to move on to pro!
Good luck perfecting Crazy Train and Rainbow in the Dark on this, bitches!

That guitar appears to have not enough frets.

Yeah, I don’t want to derail this since we have a proper RB3 thread, but it’s hard to imagine that guitar being fun to play in any way. I think most of the Expert players will stick with the standard 5-button guitars, and maybe there will be a community of players using the Squires if they actually work right, which we won’t know about for a while.

Everything I know about human nature tells me this isn’t true.
They call it “pro” mode – and pro mode has Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert – so non-pro Expert is now the medium skill level.
The e-peen size of guys who can perfect stuff on the Pro Expert mode will be visible from space. Regular expert is kind of trivial now, in relative terms.
