Meanwhile, next week’s tracks:
* Blondie - "Rapture"
* dc Talk - "Jesus Freak"
* The Decemberists - "The Perfect Crime # 2"
* Eagles of Death Metal - "I Only Want You"
* Eels - "Saturday Morning"
* Family Force 5 - "Love Addict"
* KMFDM - "Sturm & Drang"
* La Roux - "Bulletproof"
Have they said anything about potential upgradeability of DLC yet? Makes it really hard to pull the trigger even on songs I like.

As long as this happened post RB3 I’d be happy. I’m actively hoping that nothing awesome comes out in the next couple months that won’t support the new features.

RB2 DLC is playable on RB3. If you mean the likelihood of them retooling it all with keyboards and pro Guitar, they have said that they have no current plans to do it.
Yeah, that’s what I mean, and yeah, that’s what I feared. That pretty much makes dlc irrelevant to me for the near future, and I’m actually ok with the fact that the Pearl Jam Rock Band thing never panned out.

I don’t think Lizard King is referring to retooling all the DLC that’s been released so far; I think he’s talking about the DLC coming out between now and when RB3 comes out. Why not create the current DLC to be compatible with RB3? They must have the new file format specified by now.
Harmonix has said that for songs to use all the new features of RB3, they have to scrap compatibility with earlier versions of RB. RB3 will be able to play all earlier DLC, but any DLC that comes out after RB3 can’t be played with earlier games.
Since any DLC released between now and when RB3 is released has to be compatible with the first two games, it won’t take full advantage of RB3’s feature list. I could see them maybe releasing “RB3 Versions” of previous DLC that would really take full advantage of harmonies and keyboard, (like Queen,) but I expect you’d have to pay for it again.
That makes some sense, and is a nice enforcement of buying new retail product without totally abandoning their DLC.
I’d also guess though, that some of the RB2-era DLC they’re releasing now was created before / during development of their RB3 features and file formats, and they’re just burning off some of the excess inventory that wasn’t considered likely to be profitable enough to re-map with the new features.
That’s probably a good guess. And I would be fine with an upgrade fee for the RB3 features on existing/interim DLC. For one thing, I wouldn’t need all 250 songs I’ve downloaded, but the pro features might well make some old content that more interesting especially when it comes to easy songs.
I just hate to see all that stuff get left behind in the Guitar Hero era, assuming the new features are as great as they seem.
Cool, I like that Decemberists track a lot. And dc Talk will be another good comedy option for parties.
Right. Which is why I’m not buying any track that I’m not absolutely in love with between now and RB3. I’d be interested to see if this is substantially impacting DLC sales or if the majority of people don’t care.
I’d be really surprised, though, if they don’t re-release their top sellers for RB3. I mean, no Pro mode for the Who tracks? Say what?
Slight clarification:

[li]Apparently, “almost our entire legacy catalog is already authored for cymbals”, which means that “Rock Band Pro supports legacy songs for drum”. (Ref)[/li][li]You can play standard Guitar and Bass parts on the keyboard. As I recall, if a song used keyboards or piano, all keyboard notes were mapped to one of Guitar or Bass. While the DLC wouldn’t support Pro mode on keyboards, you could still go all the way up to Expert.[/li][/ul]
But yeah. If they re-release full RB3 featured versions of Queen, I am so there.
That’s a good point SRFisher. I loved the guitar parts on the Queen pack except for Somebody to Love, where they used the guitar for the piano. But now, I’ll be able to play the piano on piano. Cool!
Still, I really hope they do songs like Baba O Rielly again. No instrument plays the piano part in that one.
I don’t recall much going on with the piano in that song, besides a three-chord repetition. There’s a hell of a lot of sequencer trickery going on, though.
Although reading up on it, it was apparently just an organ with some effects.
I’m so all over that Blondie track. What a great song.
What would be cool would be the Rapture - Riders on the Storm mashup.
Doesn’t look like anyone has mentioned the Black Keys tracks this week, but I’m pretty excited about that. Been a while since I bought any DLC tracks, I’m sure I will grab all three.
Another Ministry pack. Yay! Be warned: Jesus Built My Hotrod has a weird fucking rhythm that’s hard to play in real life.
