Four new tracks Tuesday. Two from Red Hot Chili Peppers (Snow (Hey Oh) and Tell Me Baby) and two from Rush (Closer to the Heart and Working Man). Yes, you heard right, Working Man. Apparently, they were able to get ahold of an alternate-take master of the song, so here it is.
Both Rush tracks are masters, and it seems both Chili Peppers tracks are too, as they don’t specify otherwise.

I generally like RHCP but those two tracks suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Totally album filler material.

holy crap, “closer to the heart” has a BASS SOLO. Wow.
Well, yeah, there aren’t that many SOAD songs that would be easy on the vocalist. I’m getting thrills just thinking about the other three parts, though.
I think Aerials would be great for the vocalist. FWIW Beethoven’s C*nt is one of my wife’s favorite songs to sing in the game.

Closer to the Heart! Nice!
The second release of Working Man seems really weird to me. It’s not like they’re releasing alternate takes of Tom Sawyer. Could there possibly be any demand for that?
From the sounds of it, they couldn’t even find the master tracks until after the cover was already released, and they wanted to get at least some masters out but felt that the alternate version would be more appealing than just rereleasing the exact same version. People would have felt ripped off (well, more so) if it had been the same version, and they can’t just replace the existing track for free due to leaderboard and multiplayer issues.
So any word on whether owners of the Working Man cover will get a break on the price of the master?
They won’t. I mean, it’s two different versions of the song (the note charts are different). I much prefer the master, though–I doubt I’ll touch the cover again.
Bass solo? Going to need to check that out.

So, what’s everyone’s opinion of Snow (Hey Yo) and it’s fun Expert main riff?
I tried earlier today and could not get more than 8% of the way into the song. I may be able to struggle through it, but it’s going to take me some practice.
Tell me baby has some interesting drum patterns. My leg gets a workout playing it.
Snow destroyed me on hard (20%), and while a lot of practicing this morning got me through other songs that I had been stuck on (New Pornographers on expert is FINALLY done), I don’t anticipate being able to do this one on hard anytime soon.
I like all of this week’s releases, with Closer to the Heart being unexpectedly awesome. It’s right in my hard difficulty zone, where I feel challenged but still do well, and I think it will join other recent additions like Beethoven’s C*** on my short list of favorites. Too bad they are tough to get going in a group.
Snow is incredibly tough on Expert guitar. I can’t get more than 10% into the song without failing out. It’s a lot of fun for vocals, though not nearly as tough–I’ve five-starred it on Hard, there (99%, 51-phrase streak).
Tell Me Baby is a lot easier on guitar, but still a lot of fun to play. Closer to the Heart and Working Man are both awesome.

I’m half expecting Sluggo to walk in and say he 5-starred Snow on sightread, and then FC’d after an hour.
I’ve actually deleted the cover version. I wasn’t going to download the master (Working Man is far down my list of favorite Rush songs), but I figured I needed to send the message "masters good, covers bad, Rush EXCELLENT.
You fool! Are you forgetting that Rock Band is published by EA? Your intended message will instead be interpreted as “If we release the same content twice, the fanboys will buy both!” Amongst marketing types, this is known as “the Lucas technique”.
Snow is pretty rough. I did finish it on sightread though. 4 stars - 86%. I don’t think I ever hit higher than a 2x multiplier during the riff though. Keeping that riff going gets quite tiring… by the second verse I was hurting a bit.
Tell Me Baby drums are a workout indeed. One of the few songs that really tires out my foot. One of those songs where you can’t wait to hit an overdrive so you can give your foot a rest for a second. It’s fun though. I also liked the end of Snow’s drums a lot.
I’m still undecided if I should rebuy Working Man. The master track is way better sounding than the cover and from what I’ve read the note chart is more fun.

I have not even DL’d Snow yet, but after seeing the difficulty rating of 9 – which shocked me (really? maybe I’m thinking of a different song) – I’ll probably check it out soon.

If you listen to the song, it’s mostly bass driven with Frusciante doing some intricate shit in the background. The intricate shit is hard.
There isn’t a guitar solo in the song, but the main riff is probably more difficult to play than 95% of the rest of the solos I’ve seen.

I just watched a 100% video of it. The main riff looks very similar to the noodling in Dani California – I’m assuming the same guy charted both songs.
