So, did anyone get to try The Who pack this morning? Any impressions yet? My Generation (live) isn’t really 15 minutes long, I hope? (Not that that’s not great for listening to, but I just don’t think that sounds like a good idea as a random song in the middle of a setlist).
Young Man Blues is probably the hardest all-around song in the game to date. I couldn’t sleep last night and caught a late night/early morning streaming playthrough of scorehero guys going through the pack. The drummer, bassist, and singer all failed out at least once.
My Generation appears to be the best and hardest bass song in the game. It’s also not 15 minutes long. Maybe 5-6 minutes.
It looks like there is a lot of pretty challenging stuff in this pack for all instruments.
I can do a 5-6 minute version of My Generation. 15 minutes is too long for a RB song, IMO. But Behind Blue Eyes is the one I REALLY want.
My wife was hoping for Squeezbox. Oh well.

I just watched a video of the Expert drum track for Young Man Blues.
YIKES.
The Who pack is fuckin’ awesome! I will make Young Man Blues my bitch just as soon as I stop failing it on expert. (Duh!)
The did a good job condensing My Generation. No filler there.
Also: singing Behind Blue Eyes gets you lots of nookie. :)

Eminence Front is a little crazy – what with all the two-note noodling at the beginning. Great, great pack of songs though.
Also, am I imagining things, or did these songs get mastered with the “play real good and people sing along” track? I don’t recall that for other DLC but it was definitely happening here. Particularly noticeable during the chorus of “Behind Blue Eyes” but happened elsewhere as well.
From what I can tell, they only do it with the really famous songs, usually. Which makes sense. I noticed that last month when I went to Rockfest here in Kansas City. So many groups that day (Trapt, Sevendust, others) tried so hard to get the crowd to sing along with their songs, and they got a pretty good reaction, but when the headliners (Stone Temple Pilots) took the stage, the reaction was just unbelievable. They didn’t even have to try. The crowd was screaming all the songs along with the singer, as was I. It was completely organic and felt natural.
Similarly, I’m not bothered when, for example, none of the songs in the Cars’ album had the “crowd sings along” feature, since I just don’t think that anything on that album would warrant that kind of reaction from a crowd. Whereas, songs like Behind Blue eyes would.
Gah, My Generation is only four minutes long at the most.
The pack still rocks, however. It rocks hard.
Oh yes, the crowd singing along is absolutely awesome; really stood out for Behind Blue Eyes for me. God, this pack fucking rules.

This is the best download for Rock Band by far. They completely outdid themselves. I haven’t tried vocals yet, but the guitar and drum charts are amazing. The crowd singing along is incredibly cool, too. I just completely fell in love with this game again.
Which forces me to ask…what happened with Baba? Here’s hoping for a fast forward button in the next RB.

Yeah, Baba O’Reily was kinda weird. All keyboard and synth for a long ass time at the start.
Maybe they figure they can get away with that for such a famous master track, but it’s pretty boring after the first listen.

Well, yeah, but who the hell has ever heard a trapt or avenged sevenfold song compared to STP? I mean, STP got massive mainstream MTV/radio playtime. Seems like a fundamentally flawed comparison to me.
You don’t think comparing trapt to STP is the equivalent of comparing The Cars to The Who? How come? Which part of the comparison breaks down for you? You think the Cars are more popular than that, I’m guessing? I just think The Cars didn’t get many songs into pop culture awareness like The Who did, so I thought the comparison was apt.
The times Cars songs have come up in random setlists have convinced me that it’s physically impossible to sing along with Ric Ocasek, so I don’t blame the audience for not trying.
It’s the “new intro to Freebird”, minus the “challenging” part and the part where they accomodate letting me hit any button at all on lead. And it’s a song that I like enough that I would play so long as the note chart didn’t actively offend me, which it doesn’t, but jesus how long it takes. I guess now that I think about it I avoid Won’t Get Fooled Again for much the same reason, but not as extreme.
My pedal snapped today. I’ll celebrate the RMA with The Who in a week.
WGFA isn’t in the same league as the Baba O’Reilly intro; BO’R goes on F-O-R-E-V-E-R. If you’re playing guitar, that is. Everybody else gets to come in before the guitarist plays a single chord.
It wouldn’t be so bad if the guitar line was interesting, but it is deadly dull until the end (and even then, it’s just quick repetition). My abiding love for the song would get me through either of those hurdles, but not both.
How is it with the other instruments?
