I’m gonna be doing some singin’ again! Finally!
After several weeks of “meh” I finally get a week of pure awesome. God help me I might even buy that Disney-fied pop trash track from The American Mall.
Hey. HEY!! Let’s not go overboard, bucko!
Wow that’s awesome. It’s going to be a blast doing those Duran Duran songs.

Random thoughts after picking up the 2 DD tracks:
-
The (re?)mix on Rio sounds a little weird. It sounds a little empty, and there’s definitely stuff missing from the intro.
-
The bass lines for Rio and Girls on Film may be two of the top five bass charts in the game, either on-disc or DLC. A 100% for Rio bass is around 270k, which is remarkable because it’s all single notes and the song isn’t that long. It’s pure awesome.

The guitar in Girls on Film feels a little overcharted, but fun to play. The guitar chart for Rio, however, is a complete snoozefest for 3 minutes, then a ridiculously overcharted rhythm part behind the sax solo, and then it’s back to boring. A little fluctuation in difficulty isn’t a bad thing, but a song where 90% of it is boring and 10% is insane, IMO, is a bad recipe for a chart.
The DD tracks are GREAT for expert drummers, if a little tiring. Rio is quite reminiscent of Outside, with its string of hi hats and the pattern of the bass drum. Nice to have a couple of stamina builders that aren’t metal.
Rio is over 5 minutes long. It just goes fast. I didn’t care for the Girls on Film chart, I’m like WTF? It’s Duran Duran, not Metallica! I hope we don’t have over-eager overcharters taking over…
I have a lot of catching up to do. Thanks for the heads up and reviews.
If you’re new, the Rock Band DLC site might help you sift through all the stuff.

I’m really not a fan of the guitar charts for the two new DD songs…I was really looking forward to these songs but, for me, they are just NOT fun to play. How disappointing. Some songs just feel like the charter just wanted them to be stupidly hard, or annoying, or both. I tried both on expert drums too and failed out pretty quickly. I can handle most expert songs but these just blew me away on the first attempt. I’ll try again since it doesn’t seem like I’ll be playing them on guitar at all.
Practicing Orange Crush is a great way to get better at these types of drumming track. If you keep failing out on Rio and Girls on Film, go play that for a bit instead. It’s slower and the kick is simpler. You’ll get them eventually.

I’m going to blame my cracking foot pedal…I noticed that they extended the ‘no time limit’ warranty to October so I have a good excuse for turning in my original one now and getting whatever the upgraded & more durable model is in exchange.
I can play Orange Crush though, and even do really well on Move Along and Hand that Feeds now so I have hope I’ll get through these two eventually.

Haven’t played the DD tracks, but it looks to me like “Outside” falls between those tracks and “Orange Crush,” so it might be a helpful one to practice.
Do it. I finally replaced mine and the new ones use thicker plastic with more reinforcement in critical areas. (I laid the old and new out side by side and compared them.)
I would also highly recommend using masking tape to reinforce the pedal with a pair of knives. It makes the thing much sturdier.
Whoa, hey, I just got an email. Full album, Rush: Moving Pictures, next week. Did we already know about that?
I think one of the issues with the guitar parts in the Duran Duran songs is that nobody thinks of ‘guitar’ when they think of Duran Duran. It felt like most of the guitar line is actually the keyboard track. They are fun to sing, and I’m sure the bass part is cool, but the guitar part is decidedly meh.
Nope. Isn’t that album only 7 songs? 2 of which are already in the game and 1 of which is an instrumental.
I can’t just cut and paste because it’s all in images in the email, but track one is “Tom Sawyer (Original Version)”, so I guess that’s good news if you’re sick of the cover. Limelight is also “Original Version”, is there already a version of Limelight available?
You do have a good point about the instrumental track though (YYZ, right?), I thought they wouldn’t be doing those but it’s included here.

Lots of tamborine, I guess.
