And I looooove the idea of using the entire 19 year series to answer stupid fill in questions like why Leia remembers her mother. WHO CARES. I will never again watch anything Star Wars related unless it is 99% unconnected from Lucas. And probably not even then.

I call total bullshit.
Especially after seeing the way he adds “…written. All done.” to the end of that that smells like a lie. I don’t watch Lie To Me, but I think looking up and to the right is an indicator that what your saying is dreamcrushing lies to torture the inner child of generations.
(Some websites say it that looking up and to the observer’s left is indicative of “visual construction”. I’ll take that as proof).
Total. Bullshit.

Sounds totally plausible to me.
Hour 1: Painfully adolescent-sounding mock philosophy.
Hour 2-5: Slapstick for 8 year olds.
Hours 6-50: Random CGI.
I thought the 9 movie arc was first mentioned in a 1979 Time article/interview with Lucas?

He absolutely originally said there would be three trilogies. I distinctly remember that from my youth. I’m guessing he changed his mind, either due to the success of dozens of novels that addressed the storyline immediately after Return of the Jedi or a decision wait for the day he could rely entirely on technology instead of paying actors.
But I’m sure his bajillion dollar self-sustaining empire is a big disincentive to spending the years required to make additional movies. I don’t see it happening.
Nope. Not bullshit at all. I know people who have written several of those scripts and worked on the show’s development.
He changed his mind between Empire and Jedi. Originally “There is another” was meant to be a reference to Luke’s twin sister who was out being trained as a Jedi on the fringes of the galaxy by a hidden enclave of Jedi survivors, and the plan for the 7-9 trilogy was to focus on Luke’s search for her and their subsequent confrontation with the Emperor. The Emperor wasn’t even supposed to appear until the last film. After deciding to make Vader into Luke’s father, Lucas felt the story had shifted from an adventure serial to a more character driven story about the Skywalker family, plus he was tired of the grind of making the movies for so many years running, so he decided to end it with RotJ. The “There is another” line had to refer to something, though, so Leia was made Luke’s sister in an effort to explain it, even though her status as a Skywalker has absolutely no relevance or impact on the plot whatsoever.
Sure it did, it made the Luke/Leia scenes much creepier in retrospect.
Well, okay, aside from that.

I believe you more than I believe Lucas.

Interesting, Matt. I never heard about the original focus for 7-9 being the Search for the Lost Jedi (or maybe I did and forgot about it, I dunno). That would have been an absurdly thin storyline. I guess Lucas has some sense after all.

Please base it on the Thrawn trilogy! It would be better than the Prequels.
I remember sitting around bullshitting with my friends when Empire came out, wondering who the other would be… we jokingly suggested Leia and then bust a gut laughing at how absurd that would be. Turns out the joke was on us.
Qt3 makes me feel so young!

And me. I was conceived in 1977 but I distinctly remember discussing a 9 episode arc with my friends when I was a kid during the 80s and 90s.
Also, like an abused wife, I still believe that next time, Lucas will treat me right.
Can I re-pitch Forced Alliance ?
The Thrawn trilogy, while one of the better EU novels, is not fantasy and wouldn’t work as a Star Wars movie, not to mention it would have be rather radically altered to fit what the Clone Wars turned out to be. Also it is arguably the most overrated thing in the entire Star Wars canon. I’d like to see Thrawn brought into the films somehow, but not in the Zahn story.
Agreed. It’s been many years since I’ve read them but one thing that annoyed me was that despite it being a big galaxy, Thrawn kept appearing on the same planet as the heroes.

I think the new Clone Wars TV show is pretty decent. It’s not traditional Star Wars ala Episodes IV-VI, but if you take it for what it is, it’s a pretty good show. I’ve only watched about 2/3rds of the first season so far, but I like what I’ve seen. Almost all of the episodes I’ve watched are pretty good, and some of them are great fun.
Yeah, I think a lot of people saw the movie and gave up on it. That wasn’t an option for me, as my boy loved it. It turns out that the series is really pretty good overall, and much better than that movie. I particularly like the episodes that are the least Star Wars-y, that focus on things like interactions between the clones.
