What interests me is that Russia didn’t say anything about how angry they would be if we did it.
It’s because the American people would never stand for a large enough invasion and occupation to turn the country around and make it a friendly democratic state. What would happen is we bomb the hell out of the country, overthrow the government and then Iran and southern Iraq form a oil rich Shiite state which hates the US and Israel.
Also in the short run remember that now the cold war is over Russia is an energy EXPORTER. Which means $$$ for the ruling class if something happens to world oil supply.
My point is that the lack of such a statement carries a message to Iran.
Russia was the reason the UN watered down the language on their condemnation of Iran yesterday and didn’t call for an immediate relase of the hostages. Maybe they’ve changed their mind in the last 24 hours.
