Rust is leaving early access for later access

Rust is finally leaving early access on February 8th. Don’t get too excited. According to developer Garry Newman, this isn’t a milestone for fanfare and fuss. Development will proceed essentially unchanged, except for a price increase from $19.99 to $34.99. What’s the big deal then?

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/2018/01/22/rust-leaving-early-access-later-access/

Think of it more like we’re leaving Prototyping and entering Alpha.

When did actual release suddenly mean just Alpha status?

Not sure if it’s the Quarter to Three RSS feed or the Feedly website, but images from previous posts are being reused for unrelated posts.

This has happened before, and like last time, the results are pretty great:

Hanks and Streep looking at Rust genitals.

That’s brilliant.

Later Access sounds about right.

Classy emoticons they got going on.

So, will this lose the Early Access moniker on Steam? How could it if in their own blog post they admit it is like moving into alpha and development continues unabated?? Wouldn’t that be a violation of Valve’s terms?

Cash grab. Create some urgency and marketing buzz with a looming price and faux launch late.,

Awesome news writing on this Nick. Made me laugh. :)
