My upload bandwidth? That I use for more or less nothing ever? Not particularly, no.
I’m a consumer. I have 8mb down and like 768kb up. I’ve only very rarely found the upload cap to even be nearly approached.
Personally, I’m annoyed they won’t implement a client that lets me throttle my upload BW so that I can still surf the web while the downloader’s going. And I’m a bit annoyed that they don’t have decent seeds of their own set up so that sometimes my DL trickles to a slow. But I couldn’t care less that they’re using my BW that I never use; I only care that they’re doing it with piss-poor software that takes away most of my control. If I could cap my upload BW at 75% of maximum I’d actually leave their patcher up for days on end to help out, because I’d never know the difference and I like the service they sell me more than I care about being nice to Comcast.
You can flag yourself for multiple things, but I don’t know what the limit is. The last I saw, the panel had 3 dropdown boxes, so that might be the limit.
The initial dropdown allows you to choose between dungeons or quests – if you select quests, the second dropdown is populated with a list of every quest in your log to choose from.
To any rogues who have installed this: did the imp S&D/imp Backstab swap make it in? I won’t have a chance to play until later tonight, but I’m dying to know. I want to spec 30/0/21 so bad!
To all complaining about the Blizzard bittorrent client:
Run BackgroundDownloader.exe from your WoW folder to start the torrent.
Close the BackgroundDownloader.exe.
In your Wow/Cache folder, observe the .torrent file handily left there for you.
Open said .torrent file in uTorrent/client of choice, and watch the patch slam to your machine at great speeds (assuming you have uTorrent/whatever configured correctly).
FWIW, I was able to get the patch at a steady 700KB/s last night via uTorrent. No need to use any sort of extraction tool to get at the .torrent.
You can flag yourself for any quests you have and any dungeons you are eligible for. You can flag for up to three different quests/dungeons.
I think the tool is fine. The problem is players – many, perhaps the majority, refuse to use it. I think players like the immediate feedback of seeing their “60 rogue lfg for UBRS or Strat” text in the general chat. You don’t get any feedback besides a tiny icon with a roving eye that indicates the LFG tool is working for you. I think the LFG tool needs to spam chat
with your group request when you initially set a flag, and maybe repeat the spam once every five minutes.
They got rid of LookingForGroup channel though, so the players will have to use the tool or have a collective agreement to create a LookingForGroup channel.
This is news? :) Depressing but long expected. Thankfully, many have been tested/built up from the beta so it shouldn’t be long before some show up for live 2.0.
As for the damn downloader, it worked fine for the first 200mb at an ok speed but by then its cap had caused my modem to reset twice (comcast and or modem issue with all torrents sadly) so I just turned off peer to peer and got the last 290mb or whatever straight from blizzard. Took about maybe 45mins total to get the patch. Good to know they at least make a .torrent available in the cache dir. It would be nice if they did put in a speed throttle though because all full upload speed does is slow everyone’s download. I don’t mind sharing my bandwidth but then I’m not on metered net access. However, it would be nice if the idiot fuckers at blizzard learned how to code their bt client because no one I know would ever leave it going for longer than their download. Maybe I’ll get off my ass and write blizzard a snail mail letter.
I would think Uldaman would be more popular now that you can’t be a level 5 mule and disenchant anything (didn’t they put that change in?). So now everyone who wants to keep disenchanting high level stuff has to level an enchanter, which means a trip to Uldaman to talk to the trainer.
CTmod has released a new version but it’s terrible now. It has left 1/5 of the features it had. No bars either. All other mods really broken (even the simplest stuff like coordinates on map).
The gnome backward animation now is broken.
The LFG system is terrible.
Yeah, you can flag LFG without specifing an objective but… you aren’t flagged for anything. Heh.
Basically you cannot just go LFG for whatever, which is truly retarded. And when you cannot use a general purpose LFG flag then the three choices you have left become quite a limit.
I also thought that the “looking for more” tab could be used for example to flag your group for a priest or a druid, so that all priests and druids could see that you need them. Instead the “LFM” tag was misleading and this tab is only used for searches, and I think only a group leader can still flag the group (and there are bugs, for example I gut stuck in LFG and I couldn’t turn it off anymore).
The searches you can do are as limited as the LFG tab. You cannot for example see all the LFG people from level 20 to 25. You cannot make cumulative searches, and if you want to go LFG for a quest you can only flag three quests, only if they are “elite”, and only if you take up all your LFG fields.
And when people search you they can only do that if they select THAT specific quest.
So, for example, I cannot go help someone LFG for some random quest. Not even if the quest is shareable. Because I cannot SEE he is LFG if I don’t have that quest as well and looking specifically for the same thing.
Well I can’t say it’s terribly surprising that Blizzard overdesigned the new LFG interface, the same way they overdesigned the meeting stones. Seriously, Call to Arms has been out for what, a year and half? Just copy that you retards!
