S.T.A.L.K.E.R. delayed ... again

Because I love typing words with fullstops between the letters I thought I would mention S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has been delayed … again !

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has been delayed and pushed back from Q1 to Q2 2005.

According to fansite Oblivion-Lost.com, the reason for the delay is due to further optimization of the game’s dynamic life simulation system, which uses complex routines.

THQ’s online content manager Max Steller also said that the game has technically been finished and all features have been completed, but due to the complex nature of the dynamic life simulation routines, it will take GSC World additional time to make sure it works properly, as it is a crucial part of the game.

Damn those dynamic life simulation routines. I am really looking forward to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Oh well if it means a more polished product then I guess it is no big deal.

Let us mourne the delay of yet another game, again.

Actually I’m glad because I’m pretty much overstuffed with games in november. I’m hoping December is a dry month.

Makes me start to wonder if their idea of these independent AI’s will ever work in the game.

Oops! We run at five frames a second even on Doom III-capable machines!

Damn! As you say, if it makes for a better product, take all the time you need. But still, damn!

Sunrise so close now
Stars mirrored by still sea for
Half life two draws nigh

Glory reflected
Chernobyl dimmed by clock’s hand
The moon is too dim.

I am really stoked for this game. A mix of Black and White, GTA3, and Fallout, in a FPS. If they can pull it off, it’ll be killer.

And in a game like this, the AI is all-important, so if it the AI wasn’t up to snuff, I’m glad it’s delayed.

I agree – I’m not sure STALKER has necessarily missed its window. From what I’ve seen of it, it’s not trying to be a linear FPS – it’s almost like they’re trying to cross-breed an FPS with a single-player MMO, where you can explore and take on “quests” to move the game forward.

Even if Half-Life 2 gets labeled “best FPS ever” in a few weeks, STALKER still appears like it’s trying to do things no one’s really done yet. They just need to make sure the graphics don’t look outdated when they release, which, I think, still gives them a bit of time.

If coop is present, I’ll be excited.

No excitement for you! Co-op has been given a big no no by the devs, which is a pity.

What? Damn. When did that get cut? Two months ago, I heard it was going to have co-op.

Alot of people wanted it but the devs used the reasoning of ‘too hard’… but maybe it would be included in a patch later on down the track.

i.e. never to be implemented.
