I just finished this game, level 41 or so and 23 hours in. The missions were spectacular, but the open-world stuff (city design, sub quests, clothing options) were mediocre. The ultimate SR game, to me, is SR3’s missions + SR2’s open world.
My dark, dangerous love of Ash Burch has finally forced me to file a restraining order against myself on her behalf. If you see me within 1000 feet of her, please call the police and/or taser me. Trust me, it’s for her own good.
Finally digging deeper into this game, and really digging it. Question: is there a known bug where you involuntarily throw a grenade every time you exit a shop or a vehicle?

Haha, no. But it’s be pretty awesome if there were!
Barstein, I’ve played on two different platforms and a couple of different systems and I never saw anything like that. I’m guessing you’re on the PC and have some sort of controller conflict going on.

I played with a controller on PC and that never happened to me except for when I hit the button mistakenly (which was… somewhat common, actually).
Sounds like a feature to me!
I never did play the DLC – Gangstas is good, right? Any other good ones?
Wow, weird. I own a 360 wireless controller adapter that was not connected, and was keeping a pretty close eye on my keyboard for unwanted key presses. No idea where the grenade throwing action was being invoked but somehow I’m still able to inch my way through the missions and the game anyway. It is indeed kind of hilarious when it happens but surprisingly, isn’t as much of a showstopper as I feared at first.
no idea, I do own all 3 dlc’s , but I heard they were all shit, so I’ve avoided trying them.

Definitely play Gangstas.
This is a terrible lie. They’re not really a good price to content ratio, and Genkibowl is a bit of a misfire in that it just adds some new activities, which weren’t the strength of SR3 to begin with (though they’re fun activities, imho). But both Gangstas in Space and Trouble With Clones are awesome, full of fun mission design and writing and new toys. I kinda wish more of them unlocked afterwards (especially the Saints Flow abilities), but c’est la vie. At least they’re replayable. For the $8 I paid for the lot of them, they were well worth it.
I thought Tom hated them all, but I can only find one review:

I guess the others are ok then. I might as well give them a try this week.

The other two will take a total of about two hours total to get through. I’d say it’s time well spent, though. Agreed that Genki Bowl isn’t really worth the time.
Thanks for the advice – I’ll play through Gangstas and Clones.
I’ve never played a single Saints Row game, but all the hype about 3 has me…well, hyped. Should I bother playing 1 or 2, or cast caution to the wind and jump straight in to 3?

I can’t recommend playing 2 after playing 3. There’s just no contest on which is the better experience, IMO.

2 has a better story and a more lively town, but 3 ups the ante on batshit insanity.
I found 3 to be very empty ultimately though, and am not planning on returning, whereas I’ve been back to SR2 numerous times. Might be just my lack of time overall these days, though.
Thanks for the advice. I’m generally a completist, but I have so little time to play these days that I’m starting to skip games if I feel like there’s not a huge overarching story that I’m missing. If it’s an open-world game that is just insane, that’s enough of an incentive for me to get right to it!
Skip the first one. The second one is well worth your time and I think ultimately a better game than 3, even though I’ve had a blast with 3.
