Why doesn’t she just disappear already? Does she have absolutely no shame? At some point, when reflecting on the day’s events, doesn’t she ever come to the realization she doesn’t know what she’s doing, and that even in friendly territory she looks bad? At least the Limbaugh’s of the world can explain whatever it is they’re arguing for. Sometimes I can’t watch Palin because I feel too embarrassed as a human being that this could rise to political clout. I want to look the other way, to deny that it happened and live in my bubble fantasy where once we could mock Bush and know he was right at the bottom of political discourse, because there was no Palin yet. Bring me back to those days.

That’s why she’s a maverick.

Also.

Pretty sure he intended it all along. I have a vague recollection when she was first coming to Fox that Beck did the same, too.

Who knows the ultimate motivations? Maybe they really do just hate her. Kinda surprises me a bit, though, given that Fox just signed her up.

Maybe they think they can broaden their market a bit by using her both as a token and a punching bag?

You don’t really need to come up with advance plans if you intend to just do what works - not like those goofy Washington fatcats who are always trying to do what doesn’t work. What will it take to get through to them?

I don’t think it’s anything so noble. Both of those guys are major douches so I think it’s just plain misogyny. They’re worried she will have better ratings than them, and no idiot woman is going to make them look bad! (Even if, in this case, she really is an idiot woman.)

I don’t think it’s misogyny, I think they hate her because whatever their faults, they at least paid their dues in the media and worked their way up to where they are now, whereas Palin is just riding her own hype balloon to the top of the mountain, soaring over all the obstacles they had to overcome when making the ascent. And she is quite obviously the most unqualified person to ever get this level of attention in serious circles. She’s basically Paris Hilton, and their producers are telling them to get her on the show and ask her serious questions about politics. So, y’know, they do.

The irony is, the more they punch her, the bigger she gets. It’s like she’s made of political hyperyeast. It literally doesn’t matter how brainless she is, because her fan base is even more brainless, and the dumber she acts the more of a hero she is to them. It could well be enough to score her the 2012 Republican presidential nomination on the backs of the Tea Party movement (whatever the fuck that is).

I have some hope that the majority of the country is not that dumb, but given the fact that the economy hasn’t turned around yet (and time’s getting short), that alone might throw a bunch of percentage points Palin’s way.

Yes, there is a disturbingly large percentage of the population who lack the imagination to answer the question “How could it get any worse?” for themselves.

It’s kind of telling that Bill’s talking to Sarah Palin about her possibly being the next president, but whenever he refers to what the next president will have to do he repeatedly says ‘he’.

Maybe she’s actually a needed tonic, something that the Republicans need to get out of their system before they can move on. She wins the nomination, loses the election in a landslide of titanic proportions, and in the aftermath the R’s start thinking about becoming a reality-based party again.

You’d have thought after the Republicans lost 2008 as badly as they did that they would have considered that.

Tea Parties, at least in my anecdotal experience, love her BECAUSE she makes snotty liberal relatives and acquaintances MAD.

Yep. The Tea Parties are nothing more than a rebranding of the GOP base, and the GOP base LOVES to tweak liberals. If you care to dig up Rick Pearlstein’s old blog, he documented this stuff fairly extensively.

So…Palin as enema? How apropos.

Ah, thanks. I needed a good laugh and that line definitely worked.

They blamed that on McCain not being a “real conservative”.

So they need to have their “real conservative” guy run and lose horribly to change the mindset of the party thats allowed Limbaughs and Becks to dictate their path. Once they realize they lost because they were living in a fantasy land and that most voters aren’t Glenn Beck, they’ll change.

Right now the party is just an echo chamber of the nut jobs screaming about how they haven’t gone far enough.

If Bill-O had been using the long knives he would have suggested putting the “illegals” into camps, and watched her head bobble along with it.

Did I get this right? Bill O’Reilly, right-wing Fox News reactionary, skewers Palin on air? I thought they were on the same side?

He didn’t really skewer her, it’s just that she had nothing to contribute to the conversation so O’Reilly started pushing her to see how far he could take it. It turns out, pretty far.

There’s always going to be an excuse.

By the last settled set of rules of grammar, he’s correct to do so. “He” is the neuter personal pronoun in the English language, used to refer to a person of indeterminate gender, such as the next president. There’s currently an argument going on at a low simmer amongst people who give a shit as to whether that should be changed or not. I honestly prefer it the way it is - it’s a rule and it’s clear, as opposed to the unnecessary addition of characters and punctuation that comes from a slash or the ultimate confusion that comes from randomly rotating your pronoun.

I am not at all surprised to find that Billy is a grammatical classicist.
