I want bendy straws too. :(
I understand their appeal, but why does every (that is hyperbole) celebrity feel the need to insist on them in their contracts? How on earth are they so important that they need to be put in writing?

Once upon a time, I read that the reason for dumb crap in contracts was to ensure that the contracts were read and followed. I believe the story was that some rock band (AC/DC? Poison? I forget…) always requested stupid crap like ‘all green M&Ms’ in addition to pretty strict lighting/stage layouts/etc. If the band walked into their dressing rooms and didn’t have a bowl of all green M&Ms, they had a fair inkling that other more important details were likely missed as well and they could choose to abandon the show or not pay or whatever.
I’m giving Palin far too much credit here though. She probably really wants bendy straws.

It was Van Halen, and it makes quite a bit of sense the way David Lee Roth explains it.
And some rich people are just whackos and used to getting whatever they point at.
My boss used to be a stage manager at the rather large Roskilde Festival and one year he showed me an Iggy Pop rider, that was just a piece of art (written by a person who was either a very clever satirist or absolutely bonkers… possibly both)
Ah, 2 years (exactly) of Palin.
It sucks.
I wonder if John McCain ever awakens in horror in the middle of the night, reminded of what he’s brought into the world.

Doubtful. The first thing you leave at the door of politics is your conscience.
Not always. Sometimes it takes longer. Stewart did a segment detailing how the McCain of 2000 was a very different person than the McCain of 2008.

The McCain of 2000 was a very different man than the McCain of 1996.
McCain was, for most of his Senate career, a pretty typical conservative Republican. After GWB beat him in 2000 he was pissed off and basically played Democrat-lite out of spite for a while. Once he decided to run for President again, he turned back into a typical conservative Republican. And after his defeat by President Obama? Well, he’s even more petulant than ever.
McCain’s actually the perfect example of a politician with no principles.
That’s always been my impression as well. I voted against him at every opportunity when I lived in AZ.
This is so true it hurts.

From the speech: Restore America and restore her honor? Is that like trying to become a virgin again or what? That’s a strange term.
I’m happy she raised a combat vet. She’s a mom, that’s great. She is not, however, a combat vet herself. It annoys me every single time she plays the military card. She doesn’t play it within context, it’s just “bless our troops,” or “our troops are the best, rah rah rah. Go America.” Every time. FFS, woman, troops do a job we tell them to do. Lets talk about what we are telling them to do instead of talking about how they did it. Lets talk about preventing your son from having to go serve in a combat zone in the first place.

Ebert was tweeting about a potential Beck/Palin presidential team. Is this serious? Because if it is, it’s the kind of thing that would make me immigrate if I lived in the States.

That would be awesome. 4 more years of Obama.

Seems like Beck shot the idea down, and kind of snubbed Sarah as well.
