This is a really good observation. Add the media’s obsession with ‘narrative’ over news, and you’ve pretty much explained her career.

There’s no real way she’d secure the GOP nomination, is there? I wonder if she’d try to make a run at the Presidency as an independent. That would be a train-wreck of epic proportions.

It isn’t like nutjob tea party candidates could beat traditional republicans in primaries, right?

And then half of them crash and burn in +10 point losses.

The best thing for this country in 2012 would be for Sarah Palin to be the republican primary for president.

Yeah, but only half. It really ought to be all of them crashing and burning. That any manage to get elected is disturbing.

Barbara Bush on Palin.

I’ve always liked George HW Bush, but it was really sad watching him in that video. Hard to say if he was just really trying not to say anything bad about the Tea Party or if he’s just starting to lose it. I suppose he is 86 now, so perhaps some allowances should be made.

Pretty sure Obama is out in '12 at this point. I don’t know if the repub nominee will win, but based on recent events I don’t think Obama even gets the nomination.

You want to make a bet on Obama not getting the nomination?

My spam filter isn’t working!

;-)

Yeah, that’s definitely spam. Dumbest political comment I’ve seen in a long time.

Obama will certainly get the nomination, if he wins will depend in large part on the economy. If it hasnt improved by then he loses to pretty much anyone the repubs put against him. If its improved he has a decent chance at a second term. Its not much more complicated then that

Anyone who thinks he wont get nominated unless for some unknown reason he doesnt want it doesnt understand anything about politics.

Aside from any of that, the Dems don’t have anybody even CLOSE to Obama in … well, any terms, really. He’s the one.

This is probably the most I’ll ever agree with Brettmcd.

Lol lol lol. Sitting Presidents always get the nomination if they want it.

According to this page, there were a few instances of people challenging a sitting president (Buchanan, Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt), but none of them actually got the nomination. Though I believe the modern nomination process has only been around since the 70s.

Spam seems to be repeating the a Tea Partier meme that I’ve seen pop up recently which is Obama only wanted to stay in office long enough to destroy the country. Now that he’s set us on that path, his job is done and he can waste the taxpayers money on a 40 year vacation. Also he should do it for the good of the country because too many people and politicians hate for him to be able to govern effectively.

And yes, when people have said this it is always with a straight face.

Sir Gene the Clean (Eugene McCarthy). Didn’t get the nomination, but knocked the sitting president out of the race. So from at least one standpoint, he was successful.

Yeah, LBJ and Truman both “retired” rather than get a second term. Interestingly, both did about 6 years. LBJ’s approval ratings were around 40% when he gave up judging by this.

Obviously you guys haven’t been paying attention to the news, otherwise you would know that up-and-coming North Dakotan Democrat state senator Snugglemuffin Wigglepants has been mulling a presidential run for 2012. He’s hinging his chances on his claim that his name is more exotic than “Barack Obama,” and he’s a serious contender according to the political analyst-slash-sports reporter at the local NBC affiliate.

Palin might get the nomination only if she retains tight control over who is allowed to interview her. They will have to give her the questions in advance and tell her the order in which they’ll be asked. Naturally that means that she’ll only get interviewed on Faux, but that might be enough. This assumes that the majority of GOP voters don’t mind that she quit her last political job. Donald Duck could then beat her in an open election, but then she can cry victim again and go away happy.
