I’m reading Rick Perlstein’s Nixonland at the moment (highly recommended), and it helps put Sarah Palin into some kind of (terrifying) context. Still, not being American, and not having been born until ten years later, I now understand something of why the Chicago '68 Democratic convention has its reputation. Even the craziest Republican convention has some way to go to beat it.
Funny how Joe was OK with Bush Jr.'s streak of anti-intellectualism.
Not that I’m entirely in love with the whole Bush administration, but that’s like comparing Joe the Cable Guy to Terri Schiavo. At least his anti-intellectualism was hidden behind a thin veneer of moral reasoning (in the case of cultural issues like stem cell research) or something approximating a legitimate theory of operation (economic theory, social liberty policies). I’m afraid to go anywhere near Sarah Palin because I think she’ll pull my underpants over my head and push me into the girls’ locker room.
It’s not like it began with Bush Jr. either. The GOP has been condemning intellectualism since at least the Reagan era. Sarah Palin is just the logical conclusion to that particular political bedfellow.
And let’s be honest, here: Nobody in the GOP would care if Sarah Palin went on TV and took a shit on an autographed picture of Ronald Reagan if they thought she was electable.
Palin displays her understanding of freedom of speech:

Constitution, shmonstitution. As long as she’s rich.
Is that…she really said that? That seems like parody.

Hi, I can tell you haven’t been following Ms. Palin long. According to Fooey, it is a very smart move by McCain.
Sarah’s a self-parody. My understanding is that when mocking her, Tina Fey mostly just used things Palin actually said, unedited.
Haha. :)
I’m not uninformed, but that’s so ridiculous it seemed like somebody made it up. It seems like something I’d make up to make fun of her; that’s why I was surprised.
I believe it.

Remember, these kind of things are designed to appeal to Palin’s fans: fellow morons. She says the things that make them feel good about themselves, and never mind that they are inaccurate or simplistic, or just plain stupid. God only knows why stupid people would want one of their own to run things, but then, they are stupid and expecting logic out of them is something of a contradiction in terms.
That’s Nancy Pelosi? You sure it’s not Hillary Clinton? How about some malnourished, cave-dwelling combination of the two?
@sarahpalinusa Inexplicable: I recently won in court to stop my book “America by Heart” from being leaked, but US Govt can’t stop Wikileaks’ treasonous act?”
Pretty sure you need to be a citizen of a country to commit treason against it…
From the AniGif thread, thanks Zeke!

Actually, that just happens whenever you point a camera at her.

Not one with as many frames

It’s the mix of fancy ballroom dress and super-white dancing that really causes the brain to derail, I find.
