This is a fair point, I think. If someone chooses to objectify themselves, then it kind of opens the door for others to do the same.
Yo, seriously though, Sarah Palin?
Uggo. Blargh.

Wait…so, I get to speculate that she’s a screamer after all?

Hmm… I dunno. As I think about it, it occurs to me that the notion that she’s objectifying herself may be messed up too. I’m not sure if it’s starting to slide into the realm of “she asked for it by wearing those clothes.”
Timex, takes a licking, and keeps on dicking.
A woman who plays up her physical characteristics is going to get oggled to some degree. We’re not saying she can’t be smart and intelligent because she’s pretty, she’s just you know, not. Either in my opinion.
Joe Scarborough - “Palin’s response probably ended her political career”
For what it’s worth, I don’t really buy this. I mean, I already thought it would be nigh-impossible for her to be elected to higher office, I don’t see this making that much of a difference.
Given the many, many other things she’s said that should have disqualified her, it’d be kind of depressing if Joe Scarborough was correct. Depressing in the sense that it would say the American voting public is somewhat idiotic.
Ironically, I think Palin’s desire for the spotlight will be her political undoing. Really, for what possible reason did she even have to respond with a video in the first place? Anybody with a modicum of sense would have known to just shut up, take the stupid map down, and wait for the news cycle to reboot itself.
So, add that to the hilarious backfiring of the Alaska show among her core supporters, who now all know that she completely bullshitted about anything to do with hunting or guns, and I think we have a classic familiarity-breeds-contempt scenario happening.
I’m starting to think that she might make a run at the Presidency, but I still don’t see how it’s possible for her to win a GOP nomination. From what I can see, she has zero political acumen and no real support structure to help her win it.

I had thought that it was impossible for her to get the VP nomination too, but I was sadly mistaken.
She almost single handedly drove away many moderate republicans.
I wouldn’t touch her with Timex’ dick, personally. Stupid that strong might turn out to be an STD of some kind.
Smart move by McCain, though!
Joe’s wrong - her chances of being elected for anything tougher than Mayor of Wasilla ended the day she resigned as Governor of Alaska because of the “Distraction” she had become. No political opponent would let that go, and it would get played endlessly in attack ads.
You were thinking about her as VP before McCain’s announcement?
I’m not sure Palin wants anything to do with the presidency. It would be a pay cut for her, and it’s become clear she’s in this for the money. She doesn’t seem to be interested in effecting any sort of change, no specific policy proposals, no pet projects or causes (other than increased oil exploration, I guess). Much like Glenn Beck, she’s passionate without being very specific. I’m sure she knows she works much better as a gadfly commenting on office-holders than as an elected official herself.
The final nail in the coffin would be the accountability which comes with the Oval Office. Why on earth would she subject herself to that?
If the response video proves anything, it’s that she is a gigantic narcissist who buys her own hype. I believe she will run.
Running for president doesn’t necessarily mean you want to be president. You’re right - she very well may run, knowing she doesn’t stand a chance of doing anything other than further polishing her bona fides as a representative of the true Americans out there who want her to speak for them and will buy her books and pay to hear her talk about the eventual winner of the race.
Personally I believe she will only do as much as keeps people thinking she might run in order to pimp whatever book or project she is pushing at the moment.
Colin Powell perfected this technique.

In retrospect, I’m not sure when I first heard about Palin. I recall being unhappy with her selection as VP.
I understood the reason. Despite how he was portrayed during the election, McCain was really not like George W. Bush. Prior to his nomination, McCain was actually quite demonized by the extreme right wing of the GOP. Folks like Limbaugh talked a lot of trash about him. Largely because he wasn’t super far to the right.
Palin was a sad attempt to mobilize the Christian right wing, who had helped get GWB elected, but who didn’t give a crap about McCain. It ended up backfiring pretty bad, as many moderate republicans considered her entirely unfit to govern, to the extent that they lost interest in the election. Not to mention the various gaffs she made in the public eye, which got played incessantly by the popular media.
It made the election kind of unpleasant for me, since I also disliked Biden a lot. I actually liked both McCain and Obama, but hated their VP candidates.

As soon as that became unavoidable, she would just quit. I’m 100% sure of it.

Palin was a sad attempt to present women voters with some breasts they could vote for, because that’s what we ladies vote for obviously. Tits. We see them and we think “By golly! Why, that lady and I could swap menstruation stories! Perhaps we are on the same cycle! I sure do want Aunt Flo in the White House!” And then we get back in the kitchen.
As soon as Obama didn’t pick Hillary, McCain’s staff must’ve fallen all over themselves to get a nice looking, down to earth lady by his side. Cause god knows it was obvious he didn’t want her. I would like to think McCain winces every time her name is mentioned.
That she was also a moose-hunting crazy bitch was a bonus that turned into a disaster.
