Satirical/Cartoon maps that are interesting

There are lies, damn lies, and stat maps.

This is what happens when political cartoons and maps collide.

Here are a few examples, through the ages:

1791

1914: The outbreak of WWI

(More info)

1935: A map I found during my time in Oklahoma, this is part of an atlas of the United States. An interesting glimpse into America, circa 1930.

1970: How New Yorkers see the US

You get the idea.

So post your favorites! If you need inspiration The David Rumsey Collection is an excellent place to start.

A little history of Fred W. Rose, the father of the “serio-comic” style in the late 1800-early 1900s.

Wonderful.

I love that one!

This is pretty interesting from 1915. A German view of things during The Great War

That’s great. A lot to unpack in that one. “Das Fatale Meer”… I would guess that’s a reference to the Black Sea Raid?

I was just about to post this one…

For @stusser

Deep in the Heart of Texas!

If you guys like these, I suggest Judgemental Maps:

1987

I was disappearing in this site. Needed to back out. It would have absorbed me for hours.
Need to save it for later. Thanks, Skip.

Fantastic, cowboy Reagan.

There’s one of these for Trump but I was afraid it might be a bit too P&R for the sub-forum.

The best one at the bottom of the link:

Judgemental Maps? I bet there’s nothing in there for Montana because and nobody lives there and OMGWTF

There’s even one for my hometown…

I come from a land of roundabouts.

If anything Montana is over-represented.

I debated putting this into P&R. It was a short debate. It’s satire.

Timeless satire.

Election of 1880

Is that a satirical comment about Satirical Maps? :)

I don’t know if anyone is holding a Torch for 1880’s results like 2016’s.

Now 1876, I think, you may have a few hold-outs. :)

NOOOOO.
It’s satires all the way down.

Every state’s most “famous” brand.

I know these maps can be made to show literally anything, but I think Florida is spot on.

That Billings one is awesome! I remember when exiting at Zoo drive and going toward Zimmerman Trail became “I’m getting there via the roundabouts.”

Montanans unite! (Except for those drunkards in Butte.)

I lived and taught in Wichita, Kansas for 11 years (2001-12) and this still makes me laugh.
