I’ll be the pessimistic one. Kav gets confirmed, GOP barely holds the house, calls it a huge win and validates everything. Trump immediately shuts down all investigations against him, pardons everyone, massively steps up voter suppression/id/shuts-down-polling-places/etc and we turn into Turkey in 5 years.

Also we should really revisit that rule about lifetime appointments. Make them set intervals. Perhaps 18 year terms where justices are rotated in every two years, in off election years.

The lifetime appointment is not mentioned in the constitution either. Just good behaviour. Seriously the way the supreme court is decided today is based on half a dozen fairly vague lines written centuries ago.
