Kavanaugh probably has some skis coolin’ in the fridge if you swing by.
Jeff Flake was a lobbyist for South Africa under apartheid. If there’s a shitty way to make this happen, Flake will be involved.

Remember cowardice is the operating pricinple for most Republicans now. Nobody wants to be the tall poppy in a field of apparatchiks. Calling for an FBI investigation let’s somebody else be the bearer of bad news.
BTW, the guy who needs to authorize that FBI investigation?
President Donald J. Trump.
Hahahahahahahaha
I mean, I don’t expect and FBI investigation to reveal much either, frankly. The FBI is already embroiled in battle with this whitehouse, I’m not sure they will want to get their finger into a SCOTUS fight along with it.
What was disqualifying was Kavanaugh’s constant lying and behavior yesterday.

Oh seriously? Flake can fvck off then.

At the minimum I would expect them to question Mark Judge, and probably some others from their class and at Yale.
There’s not going to be any investigation; this just allows Flake to wring his hands and say “I tried so hard to do the right thing…” while doing the opposite of that.

I’m confused as to what actually happened today. Basically this is moving forward which some Senators expressing meaningless Grave Concerns? Or was the vote actually forestalled?

So it seems. Some Senators did the McCain thing.

If flake is saying he’ll only vote for it to go to the floor, but that there will be an investigation prior to a vote, doesn’t that mean they will actually have an investigation?
Because they need his vote to confirm?
Seems like, since they need his vote, he won’t actually vote to confirm him until they do the investigation.
Except he’s Jeff Flake, and he hasn’t said whether he’ll hold his Aye vote in abeyance if no investigation occurs.

Look for Trump to get something else into the news soon to distract from this. Then the vote will proceed without an investigation and Kavanaugh is confirmed.
I don’t think they need his vote if he abstains, which seems more likely than him explicitly voting “no”. I have a hard time imagining Jeff Flake going on the record with a “no” vote. He’s not that courageous.

Eh, seems like he would… it’s a bit different from Collins’ vote, where she voted aye on something, with the bullshit promise that some OTHER vote was gonna happen later.
In this case, Flake is saying that he wants this to happen prior to his vote. Allowing it out of committee is kind of irrelevant if they don’t have the votes to confirm, and I think they need his vote. If they don’t need his vote, then sure, he’s giving up his power here.
I don’t THINK that’s the case though.

Flake is trying to establish his bonafides for a future Presidential run. He’ll still vote yes eventually, but he’ll be able to point at his bipartisan credentials and stump about how he is the best choice to heal the partisan divide.
