Textbook narcissist abuser talk.

I’ve got a feeling that this vote is not in the bag for ol’ turtle face McConnel.

He’s acting real tough, but this reeks of the ACA repeal vote.

Basically reads like Kavanaugh saying “I am sorry, sweet sister, but these things happen when you Wake the Dragon…”

I wonder why he wrote that? Is there someone he has to convince?

Or, at least, maybe four or five senators.

Or perhaps Kennedy? Would be rough to have him say Stevens is right.

No true Republican is going to listen to a goddam left-wing socialist like Stevens! (Appointed to the Federal bench by Nixon, nominated to the Supreme Court by Gerald Ford.)

I honestly pray that you’re right and that the final outcome isn’t a foregone conclusion, but do you really think that there are that many seriously wavering Republicans? And are they just fake wavering in order to get the rest of the Senators to go along with some sweetheart deal included in upcoming must-pass legislation?

Man, this is getting to be a dangerous game.

Kavanaugh would be a terrible SC Justice, obviously, but if he gets voted down on Saturday (nothing says democracy like voting in a Supreme Court Justice from behind barricades on Saturday!), it will be a disaster.

The GOP needs to get absolutely annihilated in the upcoming mid-terms. Not lose the House by a few votes but completely wiped out for a decade. I’m expecting that to happen - there is never going to be an accurate model for this mid-term because there’s never been a mid-term this important in my lifetime. How can you model a mid-term if you get turnout like in a presidential election (from at least one portion of the electorate)? We don’t really even know the range of possibilities.

Thus, any short-term issue that could drive Republicans to the polls could ruin everything. There have obviously been some scary polls showing increased conservative engagement because of this fight, but that’s going to be forgotten if Kavanaugh is voted in. (Consider that at this point in the cycle last time, the Hollywood Access tape was still not out yet.) In contrast, if Kavanaugh goes down, this mid-term will be PRIMARILY about the next SC Justice and not about Trump, and that is super, super dangerous as tons of voters held their nose on Trump because of the Supreme Court. Those voters will come back for the mid-terms if they have to.

The worst part about Kavanaugh going down is that scenario is win-win for the Republicans. If they can campaign on the SC Justice being the central issue, there is no loss condition. Either they win the election and can do whatever they like, or they lose and just push someone through in the lame duck session. (Surely, McConnell wouldn’t do something so blatantly hypocritical!!!)

We’re going to get a crappy SC Justice one way or another, but Kavanaugh going down would probably be the first time I would actually be afraid for the future of our country.

Of course, I want the optics of voting him in to be as bad as possible. I hope the Capital is surrounded by angry protesters as the party representing a minority of voters pushes through a blatant perjurer to a lifetime appointment. I’m not sure how I would actually feel if I was in that crowd, however; this is a fucking dangerous game.

LOL

I honestly expect that good old fashioned 60’s style political violence is inevitable and around the corner. And not just from the historically recent right fringe.

Because right now politicians, particularly Republican ones, are more afraid of their donors than their voters. If the Republicans control all three brances going forward, expect the American democracy to die. Uprisings will happen, and Trumplicans will be more than happy to crack down Turkey style. If Democrats take one or more branches, expect the militia types to go bonkers once the president starts facing charges.

Do the polls about enthusiasm take into account the size of the voter pools for Democrats and Republicans? Because people identifying as Republican has been declining, so I would think even if the poll shows parity, that overall the Dems are still ahead due to numbers.

The rom-com practically writes itself.

It’s gonna be awesome if he misses his daughter’s wedding.

Putting Kavanaugh in would be worse than only winning the House by a little bit. It would be a statement that nothing matters except partisan loyalty and all we can do is fight it out on the streets. Also, if confirming him is so good for Dems, why is McConnell in such a rush to do it?

If the Dems don’t win the House, then they certainly don’t win the Senate, so the GOP can just replace Kavanaugh with whoever they want, which means we are going to get the exact same rulings from the Supreme Court.

On the other hand, maybe a Kavanaugh yes vote pushes the generic ballot from +8 to +10, and we actually hit the point that gerrymandering backfires, and the GOP loses 80 seats.

This is not a difficult choice.

It’s just another fig leaf so the Republicans voting yes can cover there asses. “Well sure he got a little over emotional and said some regrettable things at his hearing but that’s not who he is. He apologized and everything.”
