SCOTUS under Trump

Funny enough, during today’s service, I was the lay speaker (our Pastor always asks for volunteers to speak during the service) and I actually read Matthew 25:45. It’s probably one of the most important lessons to be found in Matthew, or in Christianity.

Yeah, the sheep and the goats summarizes Christianity well.

And really, Christ’s message wasn’t complex. We are supposed to love our fellow man, because only through doing that, can we truly love God, because He loves us and wants good things for us.

Someone, maybe shivax, said something along the lines of, “they say the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince man that he didn’t exist… But i think the greatest trick he ever pulled was convincing evangelicals that they could bullshit God to get into heaven.”

The message of Christ is clear. Any Christian knows this message. If you are a Christian, and you do not care for your fellow man, things will not go well for you. You will be one of the goats.

Of course it’s fine to not be a Christian and just ignore all that stuff.

But if you actually believe? Then you are explicitly doing what Christ told you not to. And he’s not going to believe you when you try to bullshit him about why. Because he’s God.

That conservatives have hijacked one of the most liberal things in all of human history continues to baffle me.

Jesus was basically a socialist.

Yep, that’s me. And I’m sure it’s true. They know they’re full of shit and they think they can bullshit God. They can’t.

Not if you ignore everything he said! Then, he’s just the son of God, betrayed by jews. Or something.

Yeah, they never quote the New Testament. They want to be some Orthodox Jews… that aren’t Jewish. And ignore all Jewish theology. And only follow some of the stuff, because tattoos, pork and cutting your hair are fun.

What they want, is to be able to cite a higher power to justify their imagined superiority and their oppression of others.

They are, for all intents and purposes, the Pharisees. They’ve abandoned God in favor of an arbitrary set of man made rules.

When they run out of all the big Republican ticket items, will they start rolling back progress on things like DUI regulation as well? I would guess that Trumpsters are likely to be more affected by those awful DUI laws than the rest of the country. If a man likes beer, why shouldn’t he be able to enjoy a brew or ten in the comfort of his own pickup truck?

Yeah they have, to the point where people think the loudest and richest Christians are somehow symbolic of the entire faith, and that’s before you examine the Catholic church.

There is nothing in the Bible that says that you should turn your back on the poor or that you should treat the poor differently if you think it’s their fault they’re poor or someone else’s. It’s even stranger than the GOP goes after food assistance, which is not only one of our most efficient and measurably successes but the Bible references food and the poor, specifically, whether your read it literally or not. And it certainly doesn’t say you should give the crust of the bread to the poor so you can feel better about yourself for eating better than they do either.

But again, there are a lot people out there who are not Christians, atheists or otherwise, who believe they’ve only met Christians who are xyz simply because the other Christians they have met are not wielding their faith like a weapon against them, so they probably don’t know they’re Christian.

I mean… I was one of those people until I became a Christian, so I get it.

Anyway back on subject.

Quoting this in full so it doesn’t get lost.

And quite a sobering piece on the influence of Citizens United and dark money groups.

What right wing nonsense? I did not cite any of those issues as a basis for disliking Clinton, Tom. She was an uninspiring, presumptive political hack, who was a key member of the deceitful effort to undermine Bernie Sanders’ primary campaign. When our country elects its first female president, I would prefer it was someone we can be proud of, not merely someone who thinks the job is hers.

Asked and answered in one post. :)

-Tom

Apparently she was more inspiring than was Trump, not to mention Sanders. It’s pretty clear you don’t like Clinton and (now) you do like Trump. Maybe you should spend some effort on explaining why without resorting to fairly empty insults.

Also, too: How about some answers to this?

Gotta love someone with the courage to not comment until it was over.

I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO WORK OUT GUYS!

nevermind I didn’t post anything til it was over.

That’s the thing, right? I personally didn’t care for Clinton much, thought Bernie brought more excitement and agency for change to the match, but nonetheless Clinton was the opposite of a political hack. She was the uber politician, ultra competent, over prepared, knew the ins and outs so much so that she has trouble distiling a message for the layman to understand. I get why you might not like that kind of person, but to call her a hack is disingenuous.

Meanwhile, Trump, every day, literally, bumbles his way without knowing his ass from his elbow, politically and you know… in business, in life. Hundreds of examples. You might like how he’s an outsider and willing to tear things down, but to label Clinton a hack and be ok with Trump at the helm … oof.

As refreshing as it is to hear a conservative viewpoint that is well written and coherent, Neal’s justifications are just as at odds with his own logic as the rest of them. Same with the Kavanaugh argument… I didn’t believe Ford, therefore Kavanaugh was fit for duty… ok, but the hearing showed us plenty of reasons, irrespective of whether he is guilty of assault, would he would be unfit – lying multiple times, blatant partisanship, inability to articulate a position to anyone’s satisfaction, a lack of composure under fire, etc etc. But one personal assessment disqualifier is enough, apparently, to overlook all the rest which are arguably more important to his lifetime appointment.

I’m not throwing Neal under the bus for not being a Clinton fan. I wasn’t either, but I didn’t dislike her so much that I would -ever- vote for Trump.

I don’t care what percentage of the vote she got, it didn’t win. And the fact that we keep dwelling on it is as bad as Trump and company not letting go of Clinton, Benghazi, emails, whatever. We lost the election. Let’s focus on who the Democrats can put up in 2020, because there are still a ton of right leaning people that will vote for anything without a (D) beside the name.

(Also, please god don’t let Clinton throw her hat in the ring again. Let that bus roll down the road for good, please.)

Nor am I. I’m asking for some evidence — any evidence! — that his lack of fandom has a basis in something other than personal bias and animus.

I’m not dwelling on it. I’m asking a specific question in response to a statement about Clinton, for reasons that have almost nothing to do with Clinton per se. Context matters.

Even Republican Senators and pundits believed Ford. Even Trump believed Ford. They just grasped at the soddit (some other dude did it) defense straw offered by Whelan to justify confirming Kavanaugh anyway, which was easy for them to do since they don’t think it matters whether Kavanaugh did it or not.
