Thomas has been making noise recently about retirement. Can’t speak for Alito, but not everyone hangs on by their fingernails well into their 80s.

This sounds like Schumer is at least thinking about doing what is necessary and not being a spineless coward.

A little late for them to grow spines now.

If they stack the court, it will make up for a lot.
If the Republicans use the stacked court to clearly steal the election , it’s going to be up to the people to do a color revolution here.
Sure, but being able to replace one of them is hardly a sure thing, and replacing only one of them doesn’t tip the scales back.

Thomas isn’t going to retire under a Dem President. He’s too much of a culture warrior for that.
I, as ever, eagerly await hearing what Democrats in the Senate minority could’ve done beyond a Demi Moore-style STRENUOUS objection with regards to this current situation.
Beat the opposing senators with canes like we did back when politics was cool
Edit and by cool I mean largely concerned with exactly how to keep selling black people as property because this country was a shithole from day one but the beating each other with canes bit was neat
BTW, in case there was any lingering doubt, Lindsey Graham says we’d better vote for Trump’s nominee before the election.
Yeah but Preston Brooks was a Representative. :P
So, canes?
I won’t let your historical fact get in the way of my definitely awesome and realistic suggestions
If Trump loses, I wouldn’t put it past Thomas to retire right after the election and have them do a lame duck replacement.

Cause he may not have the votes. Collins said she was not going to support a vote before the election. Almost no GOP senators including Mitch has an easy re-election. I’m sure they’d rather be out campaigning than stuck in Washington doing something that’s unpopular with swing voters.
If Susan loses her seat (likely) she may be ok with one final fuck you to the Democrats in lame duck session.

Good, I hope he make sures that Mitch knows there will be personal consequence for he and Elaine, ethics investigations etc. There is always corrupt stuff with transportation projects and in this administration it has to be worse than normal. Elaine Chao may very well have done nothing wrong, but I doubt she’ll enjoy spending the next four years before Senate oversight committee on transportation.
No GOP senator running for re-election is likely to get a net gain in votes by opposing this nomination. They may gain a few voters in the middle, but they’re going to lose voters in the base.

Really you don’t think Susan Collins, (I’m independent) wins some net votes by opposing this, how about Cory Gardner? We will just agree to disagree. My second point is even more important they are out campaigning instead of being stuck in Washington, while there are opponents are saying Mitch/Lindsey/John/Susan are creatures of Washington. You are basically saying that campaigning is worthless, because they would do just as well to stay in Washington.

Waiting with bated breath to see how Trump will top Kavanaugh.
I can kind of feel with the people who think that 2016 was the watershed moment, and not now. But I also think that’s kind of failing to see the deep rot in US democracy. 2016 wasn’t an accident - the fact that the 2020 election isn’t a foregone conclusion is proof of that.

This tweet from Susan is 40 minutes old.
It is quite explicit no vote before the election and person elected on Nov 3. makes the appointment.
Which is odd, because doesn’t the second part mean no vote before inauguration?
